Xbox 720 and PlayStation 4 you would think will be the lead platforms for the upcoming game “Watch Dogs,” but it looks like those two next-generation platforms have lost to another top-notch gaming platform.
According to a report from VG24/7 on Wednesday, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot talked about how the company is using PC as its lead platform.
They will develop “Watch Dogs” on PC and then begin the ports to consoles like the PS4, Xbox 720 (presumably), PS3 and Xbox 360.
Guillemot said the AMD-based PS4 architecture does make it easier to port games from the PC platform to the PS4.
The PlayStation 3 was notorious for being difficult to develop for, as well as porting games over to the system. Sony says PS4 has learned from that and has been the device that is much easier to develop for.
Guillemot said given the current structure of the PS4, they expect fewer porting problems.
“We expect fewer problems with porting games to the PS4 than the PS3, which had a completely different infrastructure.
“Previously, we developed games first on the Xbox 360 and then translated them onto the PS3. It took a lot of time and money to port,” Guillemot said.
