WWE icon The Undertaker shocked a fans last night in an attendance at a live event at the Extraco Events Center in Waco, Texas when he made an unannounced in-ring return. WWE superstar Sheamus was scheduled for a Handicap Match on the ‘house show’ which had him pitted against WWE Intercontinental Champion Wade Barrett and Damian Sandow. The Celtic Warrior told the crowd that he “had bitten off more than he could chew” and had a surprise for Barrett and Sandow. The lights went and the crowd erupted as Undertaker’s music played over the sound system. Undertaker wrestled in the match performing some of his signature moves, and helped Sheamus gain the victory in a Tag Team Match. This return by Undertaker changes the landscape of WWE heading into Wrestlemania 29, the biggest Pro Wrestling event of the year.
ProWrestling.net posted a detailed report of the live event stating that Undertaker’s unadvertised return went over in a big way with the live crowd, saying “the crowd chanted ‘this is awesome’ during the match. Taker looked like he had never left.” This eye-witness observation of Undertaker and his work in the ring in Texas last night should come as a huge relief to WWE fans after there was insider news leaking out last week, that had ‘Taker’s Wrestlemania 29 status was in doubt due to consistent hip and shoulder injuries.
Undertaker has been highly rumored for months to make his annual return prior to Wrestlemania 29, so he can defend his legendary 20-0 undefeated Wrestlemania streak at the biggest show of the year on April 7th in East Rutherford, New Jersey at MetLife Stadium. With ‘Mania just seven weeks away, this surprise return last night on a non-televised event is a serious curve-ball thrown by WWE and Undertaker that keeps fans intrigued about what is next for this living legend. WWE was expected to reveal Undertaker on their weekly USA Network show RAW at some point. The former World and WWE Champion has not been seen since performing briefly in a tag team match with Kane at RAW 1000 in July.
Most insiders and fans are speculating that ‘Taker will face former WWE Champion CM Punk at Wrestlemania 29, but only time will tell if that match is indeed the direction the Deadman is heading in.
WWE superfan Rick Ackberger who is well known for having attending hundreds of WWE live shows, tweeted out a ringside photo of the Undertaker making his entrance at the event in Waco. You can see the photo along with two other photos snapped of Undertaker a few weeks ago in Nashville, TN in the slideshow posted with this article.
