They showed the always awesome By The Numbers video package for the Royal Rumble match.
Backstage after the video package, Team Hell No celebrated their win when Vickie Guerrero showed up and handed them both their numbers for the Rumble match. Bryan showed Kane his number and then they got into the whole “I’ll show you mine, you show me yours” bit because Kane wouldn’t show his.
From there they showed clips from the Royal Rumble FanFest.
The Royal Rumble Match
I can’t believe this is going on third. I guess Punk-Rock is main eventing.
Not surprisingly Ziggler is #1. He cut a small promo before #2 and it’s CHRIS JERICHO! Well I guess the surprises are coming early this year. Holy cow, that is awesome. The crowd understandably came unglued with that one. Jericho kept control as the crowd chanted “You still got it!” Cody Rhodes was out at #3. Rhodes and Ziggler double teamed on Jericho. The three brawled as Kofi Kingston came out as #4. He paired off with Cody as Jericho and Ziggler continued their rivalry. Out at 5 is Santino Marella. I thought he was legit injured. Santino busted out the Cobra but got stopped by Jericho with a kick. Cody then tossed out Santino for elimination #1.
Drew McIntyre of 3MB is #6. Remember when McIntyre was a serious threat a few years ago? All five in there right now are former Intercontinental Champions. In fact Santino was an Intercontinental Champion too. Jericho does the dangling foot hope spot but comes back in. Out at 7 is Titus O’Neill of the Prime Time Players. Jericho eliminated McIntyre to a big crowd pop. The crowd is really hot tonight. Out next is Goldust, Cody’s older brother and another former Intercontinental Champion. Not surprisingly Goldust went after his baby brother. Crowd was chanting for Goldust as he laid into his brother. David Otunga drew #9. He hasn’t been seen in a while. Heath Slater of 3MB got #10. They can’t all be winners. Slater started hot against Kofi as the match went into a slow down period.
Sheamus drew #11 and woke the crowd up. He was a house afire on everyone in the ring. Sheamus hit Titus with the clubbing forearms on the ropes and then tossed Otunga into Titus, eliminating him. Otunga then got the forearms and a Brogue Kick, followed by his elimination. Tensai was out next. Lucky #13 was big Brodus Clay. Mid-ring Cody fought his brother some more and mocked the Goldust mannerisms. Both Cody and Goldust ended up on the apron. Goldust flipped Cody back into the ring but Cody flung Goldust into the ring post who fell and was eliminated. Rey Mysterio made his return at 14. Darren Young of The Prime Time Players got the halfway point. As Young entered the ring, everyone ganged up to eliminated Clay. Kingston then low bridged the ropes to toss Tensai. Dolph then pushed Kofi out who landed Tensai’s back and not the floor, thus not being eliminated. Tensai then dumped Kingston onto the announce table. Kingston is still on the table when Bo Dallas came out. Kofi then took JBL’s chair and hopped back to the ring apron and got back into the ring. Good Lord was that awesome. With Kofi on the apron he low bridged the rope again and got rid of Young. As he celebrated Rhodes hit him with the Beautiful Disaster to officially eliminate Kofi.
The Godfather is #17. Holy cow, didn’t see that one coming either. The crowd loved it. He walked in and got dropkicked out by Ziggler. His music didn’t even stop playing. He just turned back around, grabbed the ladies and walked back out. Wade Barrett came out next. John Cena drew #19. He hit the ring and the entire ring attacked him. He tossed Slater and Rhodes in short order. Damian Sandow closed out the second third of the match at #20. Mysterio was eliminated by Barrett while attempting to headscissor him out.
Daniel Bryan drew #21. Bryan went after Jericho and did another foot hope spot with Bryan and Sheamus. I can’t believe Bo Dallas is still in there. Up next was Antonio Cesaro. The Great Khali followed Cesaro as the action slowed down. JBL got a great line about Great Khali marrying Natalya Neidhart and becoming Bret Hart’s nephew. The ring filled up more when Kane drew #24. As Zack Ryder came out at #25, Kane eliminated Khali. Then as Kane stared down Khali, Daniel Bryan eliminated his tag team partner. Then Bryan got thrown out only to land in Kane’s arms. Bryan wanted Kane to set him back in the ring, but Kane dropped and Bryan was eliminated too. Great, great spot there.
Randy Orton hit the ring at #26. Orton with dual Viper Strike DDTs on Ziggler and Bo. Then a RKO and elimination for Ryder. Jinder Mahal of 3MB earned the lucky #27 spot. Cena tossed Cesaro to boos from the crowd. The Miz got #28. He immediately started brawling with Cesaro in the aisleway, who was leaving ringside. Sheamus draped Jinder on the ropes and hit a Mr. Wrestling 2 high knee to send Jinder out of the ring. Sin Cara got #29. Bo Dallas eliminated Wade Barrett with a front choke over the top rope. Great for that kid and looks like he’s got his first real feud. Not surprisingly an angry Barrett pulled out Dallas and then dropped him with a Bullhammer on the outside of the ring.
Yep, Ryback drew #30. Not surprisingly he laid waste to the ring and tossed Sandow quickly. Ryback then destroyed Sin Cara and gorilla pressed him out of the ring onto Sandow. Ryback then tossed Miz. Codebreaker onto Ryback.
It is down to six. Jericho has come alive like a house of fire with signature moves all around. Jericho ended up on the apron and Ziggler flattened him with a superkick to eliminate him. Jericho sold like being shot and fell like a ton of bricks. Great spot all the way around. Finisher parade all around with Orton hitting RKOs on everyone. He then dropped Ryback with the Viper Strike DDT. He called for the RKO on Ryback but Ryback reversed and clotheslined Orton out.
Final four are Ziggler, Sheamus, Ryback and Cena. Sheamus sets Ziggler on the apron and Brogue Kicks him out. Down to three top heroes. Sheamus and Cena double team Ryback. The three trade big moves as the crowd is just hot all the way around. Sheamus hit White Noise on Ryback. Sheamus with the Brogue Kick but Ryback countered and tossed him. A two man staredown and Ryback hit Cena with a spinebuster. He looked for the Meathook clothesline but Cena countered into the STF. A Let’s Go Cena/Cena Sucks chant erupted. Ryback charged Cena and predictably Cena caught him coming and dumped him out.
Winner – John Cena
That was one of the most predictable winners in a long time when it comes to Rumble matches, but the proceeding match leading up to it was super fun, with a lot of great spots and a hot, hot crowd that enjoyed it all.
