I have been on a coconut rave for some time now and am so eager to share it with you all. When I was little, I lived in Puerto Rico and the weather was terrible for my hair. The only thing that kept my hair tamed, moisturized and shiny was coconut oil. It wasn’t until about a year ago that I started using coconut oil again, until I realized I don’t know why I ever stopped using this stuff! It is absolutely amazing not just for hair but for the body as well. Every hair and skin type will benefit from this little wonder; babies included. I am constantly researching this product and always finding new, extremely beneficial ways to use it. So far, here is what I have gathered:
- Make-up remover
- Moisturizes and heals cracked skin i.e. lips, elbows, nose and heels
- Prevents/cures acne by assisting in balancing the pH levels of the skin
- All over body and face moisturizer
- CONDITIONER! Definitely the best [and cheapest] way to deep condition your hair.
- Treats dandruff- use coconut oil, tea tree oil and some salt, massage into scalp and shampoo out.
- Nipple cream
- Diaper rash
- Cradle cap
- Moisturizer for baby
I can not stress enough how delicate our skin is and what you must do to keep it healthy and protected. Signs of aging happens because there are so many free radicals in the air that attack our skin and breaks down/damages the tissue. Coconut oil is one dependable, affordable way to prevent your skin from damage. It is full of healthy fatty acids; molecules that are super small and easily absorbed into skin pores and hair follicles. It is also abundant in Vitamin E which is an antioxidant that prevents premature aging.
Coconut oil provides moisture, softness and suppleness to your skin. It also leaves an incredible glow to it and shine to your hair. It helps prevent bacterial and fungal infections, like eczema and psoriasis as well.
I highly recommend using an organic coconut oil that has not been processed or chemically treated. That way you know you are getting nothing but pure coconut and 100% of the benefits from the product. Personally, I use this on my face once a week and every other day on my hair. I color treated my hair for 5 years and damaged it pretty bad. I saw a difference in the strength of my hair and texture within the first month or two of using coconut oil. No split ends, my ends were less dry, my scalp was moisturized [NOT oily] and my hair just felt stronger. I also use this on my son’s hair every night after I bathe him. He is bi-racial and doing this has made his curls extremely soft, defined and shiny.
Organic Coconut Oil can be found at just about any grocery store. Food Lion sells a brand Nature Select for just $7.99 and Trader Joe’s has their own brand for just about the same price.
