Every time there begins talk about “control” it always seems that the Black community gets hit the hardest! When the influx of cocaine showed up in South Central LA reportedly compliments of the CIA, the Black community saw a beast unleashed like never before. All hell broke loose! Individuals, families, and communities were reduced to living in animalistic conditions. Life became an exercise in survival for us all. The response by all levels of government was grounded in “control”; resulting in the mass incarceration of Black males. The issue at hand today, is “gun-control”, masked by a ban on assault weapons. There is no such thing as gun control when in the hands of the so-called law abiding citizen. There is no control of guns in the poor and impoverished Black community beyond that of distribution. These are not just straw purchases, unreported thefts and/or loss related weapons that criminals have in their possessions. These weapons are obtained from a source that extends beyond the low level perpetrators identified on the evening news; yet you will not hear this in any news report. It will never be the “Breaking Story” because it will expose the truths about how these weapons have miraculously flooded these communities. Now there is talk about a disarmament of individuals identified with domestic violence related incidences and mental health. The residue of an active addiction to cocaine, alcohol, and other drugs has left many with a history of both; therefore here we have another target aimed at the poor and impoverished Black community; ultimately including every Black male with such a history or not. Having worked in Community Corrections for over 16 years and having worked with fathers for over 16 years, I hear regularly about the false filings of “Protection from Abuse” orders and judges and law enforcement are aware that this happens. These will be the targeted individuals as well. Not criminals, but taxpaying, law abiding citizens. …again criminalizing the Black male. There is no secret that the Black family has been methodically dismantled throughout history, and continues to be the center of attention for “control” by outside influences; ultimately influencing it from the inside as well. There is no separation between those Black males who live on top of, or at the bottom of, the hill. This whole theatrical performance about “gun control” is merely a diversion from the reality of what continues to happen in the Black community…a smoke screen. As rapper LL Kool J put it in lyrics, “Columbine happens in the ghetto every day…” Every day there is a shooting in the Black community; usually ending in the death of somebody’s child. Many of the deaths are not even the intended target, yet we continue to bury our young, and still, no gun control here. Is it just me, or do the rest of my fellow Americans see what is really going on here. I stand on the side of the NRA and others who believe that “gun control” is not the answer to the problem. The problem has more to do with “family control” than anything else. Parental separation, drugs, alcohol, healthcare, employment, education, and a host of other issues far exceed the need for gun control. Stop wasting our tax dollars and time on these shenanigans. American’s are in need, and deserving of better treatment than we are getting. Occupy your elected seats and do something that has substance toward the betterment of all communities. Mr. President, this is just one executive order, I cannot stand with you on.
