It’s Oscars day today and everyone is excited as to who will win the 2013 Oscars. So Academy Awards fans have the big question: when will the Oscars start?
Will it even be shown online?
“I always sit in with the rest of the family and watch the show,” says Bruce, a San Francisco native. “It’s one of my favorite shows of the year. I wonder if Argo will win something.”
There will be several pre-Academy Awards shows, and then the actual Oscars show will start at the following times: Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at 8:30 p.m. ET, 7:30 p.m. CT. 6:30 p.m. MT and 5:30 p.m. PT.
Right now the final preparation are being done in Hollywood. It’s all the buzz as Hollywood Boulevard sees no traffic around the Dolby Theater area.
You can see photos in the slideshow above showing the red carpet that was set up in front of the Dolby Theater.
Oscars shown on TV
But, never mind the theater, the best viewing will be chez vous and you can watch the Oscars from the comfort of your own home on television. Note that the 2013 Academy Awards (AKA The Oscars) will be shown on a host of ABC-TV stations around the country.
Who is likely to win?
While nobody can say for sure, according to MTV.com the Best Movie 2013 could be a toss up between the movies by Ben Affleck and Steven Spielberg:
“Two historical dramas, one Academy Award. Though nine films are nominated in the Best Picture category (“Amour,” “Argo,” “Beasts of the Southern Wild,” “Django Unchained,” “Les Misérables,” “Life of Pi,” “Lincoln,” “Silver Linings Playbook” and “Zero Dark Thirty”), the race will likely come down to Ben Affleck’s thriller and Steven Spielberg’s biopic — a contest, quite literally, for the history books.
Who will be hosting the 2013 Oscars?
For the first time, the 2013 Academy Awards will be hosted by Seth MacFarlane.
So just when will the Red Carpet show start?
That answer will be dependent on who your local ABC station is. Note though that the majority of the pre-Oscar red carpet shows will happen four hours prior to the show itself.
So what if I would like to watch the Oscars online? What about streaming video, is that an option?
Actually, the answer is no. It’s true that last year there was a service offering a pay-per-view for $29.99. but that is no longer available. Some bootleg sites offering illegal viewing may appear but it’s likely they will be closed down.
Oscars 2013 post-show
Here on the west coast, look for the post-Oscars shows on your TV.
How long is the Academy Awards 2013 show anyway?
Here in San Francisco, the Academy Awards show for 2013 will air at 5:30 p.m. PT and will continue for around three hours, if not longer.
Enjoy the 2013 Oscars!
