Welcome back to Michelle Beadle, who has returned to a daily television sports show — just not on ESPN.
NBC Sports Network welcomes the blonde, big personality Beadle starting today with a new show called The Crossover.
Having already done entertainment news pieces for TODAY and Access Hollywood, as well as and reporting from the London Olympics, Beadle steps back into the sports arena. Just don’t expect hard hitting stories, at least not right away.
According to Beadle, 37 the program’s name, The Crossover signifies the appeal of both sports and entertainment.
A look at her guests gives you the picture: Jose Canseco, Gary Busey and Dennis “The Worm” Rodman.
In New Orleans for Super Bowl week, Beadle and her new co-host Dave Briggs, formerly of Fox News, kicked off their show today. It will shift to New York City beginning next week.
It now competes at 6:00 p.m. ET with Beadle’s former ESPN program, Sports Nation that shifted coasts to LA and time slots as well. Read: Rachel Nichols adds to female exodus from ESPN
Does it even phase her? The answer is no and if you’ve spent anytime listening to Beadle, you know she doesn’t shake easily.
Speaking to Dan Patrick today on his daily radio show, televised on the the same NBC channel, Michelle Beadle admitted that there is really nothing new under the sun in daily sports talk shows. It’s all about the likeability factor of her team with Briggs.
Was there a casting couch session to help pick her co-host, she was asked.
“No, because for me it would be whoever buys me the best pair of shoes gets the job”, she replied.
If you know Michelle’s work and personality from Sports Nation, you should already know what she’ll be like on The Crossover.
“I’m sure people will see similarities. It’s high spirited. I was on a show where I played myself and I’m just doing it again,” she added.
Does that make you want to tune in? Maybe you’ll do so by mistake since The Crossover replaced the network’s daily sports round up show, NBC Sports Talk hosted by Eric Kuselias, another ESPN refugee.
That program was pulled, without another air date announced.
Beadle’s face looked a bit different, almost puffy on camera during her interview with Patrick.
So much so that viewers were asking questions about it during and after the interview. Check out the video posted along with this story.
Did Dan notice it too? He asked her if she would ever get cosmetic surgery. Here is her answer.
“I would put needles in my face, yeah. I don’t want to cut my face open. I’ve been accused of having plastic surgery. I mean, I’ll let you guys know when I do. Botox? Oh yeah, right here (she pointed to the space between her eyebrows), because you don’t want that to wrinkle. Guys do it too, you know.”
OK, make what you will from it, but there was definitely something going on with her face today.
Perhaps being on camera at mid-morning in New Orleans was the reason? Stay tuned.
