Yes it’s true that a lot of people give up on their weight loss goals just a couple of weeks (if not a couple of days) into the New Year, but you don’t have to be one of them. Even if you’ve already reverted back to your pre-resolution ways, it doesn’t mean that you can’t still get back on track.

Download an app. There are so many apps out there that help you track your food intake and log your exercise that you have a wide variety to choose from. For example, if you’re following the Atkins plan and watching your carbohydrate intake, they have a free Atkins Carb Tracker app to make the process easier. Or, MyFitnessPal also has a calorie tracker. Using an app will help keep you aware of your behaviors and hold you accountable – two key aspects of any successful weight loss program.
Subscribe to get weight loss articles sent directly to you. Why spend hours searching for diet and exercise information that will help you make positive changes when it can be delivered right to your doorstep (or email inbox)? Find someone that writes in a way that speaks to you and subscribe to their emails. No, maybe not every article will fit your needs, but even if you learn one or two different tips that help you in your weight loss journey, then you’ve lost nothing (except weight).
Search the internet for motivation. There are tons of people who have already achieved their goals and they’re usually more than willing to share their stories of inspiration and hope. Even if you don’t agree with their methods, their energy and drive may be enough to get you excited about wanting to feel the way they do. Search them out, learn about them and let them keep you motivated.
Create a challenge. If you’re addicted to The Biggest Loser, this may be a great weight loss tool for you! Get your inner competitor fired up and challenge a friend or two to see who can lose the most weight or gain the most muscle. The prize doesn’t have to be money oriented either. Maybe the winner gets a free night of babysitting provided by the losing competitors. Sometimes just the right to gloat is reward enough.
The point is that there are always things you can do to aid your weight loss until you find exactly what works for you. As the old saying goes, where there’s a will there’s a way. You just have to keep yourself moving toward your goal until you find the right plan that will fit your lifestyle and emotional needs along the way.
