A Daily Word from the Word for Monday, January 28, 2012
“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. ” –1 Corinthians 6:19-20
A word from Matt: I have pulled today’s Daily Word, from the devotional chapter entitled “Don’t Be a Dirty Glass” from my book, “Sixty Days of Restoration: Awakening the Image of God within YOU!” I have been blessed by way of those who have been blessed by purchasing my book. This book was written to provide Divine encouragement and restoration to the people of today. I encourage you to purchase your copy. Not only will you be built up, lifted up, and catapulted to a new level; but you will also help me to continue to do what God has called me to do—which is to minister. The proceeds from this book help me to cover expenses as I minister to those who call upon me throughout this region, this country, and throughout the world, via in person, phone, and email. You are blessed doubly when you buy a copy of this book: firstly, you are blessed by reading the anointed words that God has given to me in this book. God’s Word transforms lives from the inside out; and secondly, you are sowing into good ground, the ministry that God has anointed me for and entrusted me with. Sow a seed into both our lives by purchasing your copy today at www.RestoreInSixty.com. God bless you, my brothers and sisters. Now on to the Word!
For the past two weeks, I have been struggling with my interactions with people. I found that I was getting more and more frustrated with folks. It seemed like people were overstepping their bounds, misspeaking, being antagonistic, trying to sabotage, and carrying out hidden agendas behind the scenes. In trying to address these issues, it seemed to make more of a mess.
So I was like “Okay God, what is going on here?” Like David, I asked God to “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting” (Psalm 139:23-24). And God spoke to me through a dream this past Thursday evening. I love how God, our Loving and Faithful Father, hears our prayers and answers the longings of our hearts! Thank you Abba, Father!
In my dream, I was at a reception. When I walked in, a hostess handed me a glass of wine. The wine was a beautiful red color and smelled so wonderful! It was the most beautiful and fragrant wine I have ever encountered. When I took the glass and brought it closer, I noticed that the glass was dirty! There were lip smudges all around the top of the glass, and there were finger prints on the body of it. I couldn’t get past the glass to enjoy its contents. And in my dream, I am thinking, what a shame to pour such a wonderful drink in a dirty glass, what a waste. I further mused, this was served to me and at a reception no less!
When I awoke, I said “okay God, thank you! Now, please give me the revelation of that which you showed me.” And this is what the Lord said to me: “Don’t be a dirty glass. Most of the time, what you say is correct, but how you say it is wrong. And how you say it is more important than what you say. The “how” is the glass and the “what” is my Holy Spirit. If the people who I expect you to minister to cannot get past the “how” they will never experience the “what.” And the “what” is life for them. It is the Life which is my Son. It is the Life that I want to give to all who come to drink from My Living Water; because their very lives depend on it. You are my vessel which carries my Spirit. I honor you by causing My Rivers of Living Water to flow from your innermost being (John 7:38), but how can others drink My Water from a dirty vessel? That glass contained My Holy Spirit, but you were deprived of it because of the vessel which carried it. Do not deprive others from receiving Me.” Some heavy but much-needed revelation, followed by a day of repentance. I thank God that He is a Merciful God, and that His Mercies toward us are renewed each morning and endure forever! (Lamentations 3:23, Psalm 136:1).
In ministry, there is an old-but-true adage that sounds the alarm “different levels, different devils.” Much like a video game, when we conquer the “monsters” on one level and we progress to the next level, the monsters are bigger and more ferocious or they are less visible and more cunning; but either way, they are more exacting and more deadly. And if we happen to make it to the next level without defeating every devil, those devils will come back even stronger than they were on that previous level! This is why it is important to pass the test the first time around, because if you have to take that test again, it will be harder than the original!
God revealed the devils that I was contending with on this level. Two I had thought I conquered in the previous level; but clearly had not; and the third devil I didn’t know it as it truly was, or know its name. The first devil was the spirit of offense. I really truly thought I smacked that devil out of the ball park; but I didn’t and it came back more cunning than before. So cunning that I didn’t even recognize it for what it was! Thank God He showed it to me! The lip smudges around the rim of the glass represented the smudges of offense. When people put their “lips on us” (not literally of course, but in what they say to us); if we are offended, then their lips leave smudges. We must become a people who are un-offend-able! When we become un-offend-able, then when people put their lips on us, no smudge is left! Our vessel, our glass, still remains clean for the next person to drink from!
The next devil that I thought I defeated, but hadn’t, was the spirit of frustration. When you allow people to frustrate you, then you allow them to mishandle you; thus, their fingerprints are all over you! Who wants to drink from a glass full of fingerprints!
The third devil I had come up against previously many times, but didn’t know it for what it was. It is the spirit of usurpation. When God showed me this word, I didn’t even know what it meant and I had to look it up. When I did, it blew my mind! The Farflex dictionary defines usurpation as “the act of usurping, especially the wrongful seizure of royal sovereignty. A wrongful seizure or exercise of authority or privilege belonging to another; an encroachment.”
Jesus! Jesus! Jesus! We are God’s royal sovereignty, we are God’s chosen royal people, we are co-rulers with Christ, we are seated with Christ in Heavenly Places! (1 Peter 2:9, Galatians 4:26-29, 1 John 3:2, Ephesians 2:6). We have been given authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy! (Luke 10:19). We should not and cannot let the devil usurp our sovereignty or our authority! We must exercise our authority and win this battle in the spirit realm so it does manifest in the natural. “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 6:12).
We cannot become so caught up in the flesh and in the natural world, that we lose sight of the truth that the battle is in the spirit realm; thus allowing the enemy to usurp our kingdom authority. We cannot become so preoccupied with our own story that the picture of God’s Story begins to fade from our view. We cannot become so focused on doing God’s work that we forget about God. And we cannot become so enthralled in our ability to host the reception that we forget the purpose of our hospitality; and squander the awesome privilege to serve the Rivers of Living Water that flows from the King of kings and the Lord of lords into us for the saving of the lost and the equipping of the saints for the ultimate Glory of the Father.
Father, thank You that we call to You and You answer us and tell us great and mighty things which we do not know (Jeremiah 33:3). Thank You Mighty God, for searching us and sweeping us clean, for burning everything out of us that is not of You with Your All-Consuming Fire; and in its place, filling us to overflowing with Your Holy Spirit. Thank You, Merciful God, for renewing Your Mercies for us each morning and for Your Mercies enduring forever. Right now, in the Mighty Name of Jesus, we take authority over every opposing and hindering spirit that attempts to operate in our lives. We rebuke, we bind, we curse, we cast out, and we put under the Blood of Jesus, the spirits of offense, frustration, and usurpation- that these foul devils will no longer be allowed to operate in our lives. We decommission you filthy demons from hell, and we destroy every inroad back with the Blood of Jesus that you will not be able to return into our lives. We give you no place. For every place in us and in our lives, every nook and cranny in us and in our lives is filled to overflowing with God’s Holy Spirit. And we thank you, Father Abba, for using us as your willing yet imperfect vessels from which Your Rivers of Living Water flow. In Jesus Name, we thank You, we love You, we adore You, we worship You, we submit our entire beings to You, and we call it done! Amen and Amen!
Take Action! Challenge your thinking! Choose to allow God to use you more and more each day as His vessel. Be willing to submit to the Father more and more each day, so that He can pour more and more of His Spirit, His Living Waters into you; so that His Water flows out of you and into the world that is so desperate to drink the Father’s Living Water. Choose to keep your cup clean and pristine by not allowing offense, frustration, or usurpation to come in and operate in your life. And choose to offer yourself as an undefiled glass, so that the thirsty can drink from you and be refreshed, because from your innermost parts flow the Rivers of Living Water. And choose to fight the good fight of flowing in the Father; for God, Your Drink Offering, has already given you the victory!
May God Bless you and keep you always.
With warmest regards,
And, in service of The Most High King,
