“Thus saith the Lord, ‘Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls.’” – Jeremiah 16:6b
This past week has been one of contending and striving for me; and feeling like I have been in a battle, was weary and in need of refreshing. One evening, as I was pouring my heart out to the Lord and then drifted off to sleep, my Father ministered to me in a most wonderful way (as He always knows what I need and how to meet each need).
The Father gave me a dream of my grandmother. Growing up, she was the only grandparent that I knew, as my other grandparents either died before I was born, or passed away when I was still a baby and too young to remember. This grandmother, we called her “Nonni”; which in Italian is the shortened version of “Nonnina,” and is a more endearing term for “grandmother” than “Nonna.” My Nonni died when I was nine or ten years old, and I was very close to her.
In my dream, this past week, I was the age that I am at the time of this writing, which is 43; and my grandmother is the age she would be if she was still alive; which would be in her late nineties. She looked beautiful! In my dream, she had never died. She gave me these gorgeous towels and a bathrobe that she had made for me. We talked about many things. When I awoke, I felt the mercy of God in such a profound way, which I had never experienced before. I thank my Most Loving Father, for a truly amazing, enriching, and fulfilling encounter.
That morning, I went to my Biblical dream book, “Understanding the Dreams you Dream” by Ira Milligan, to begin unlocking the divine clues delivered, unwrapped, and strategically placed within my dream. According to Milligan, a grandmother or grandfather represents spiritual inheritance (2 Timothy 1:5, Proverbs 13:22, Leviticus 26:39-40, 42); and clean clothing and towels represent a spiritual covering and righteousness (Romans 13:14, Psalm 132:9, John 13:4-5).
God will not allow us to miss it, as long as we continue to seek Him. Even when we think we have missed it, God, in His infinite mercy and goodness, will walk us back or recalibrate our route, so we don’t miss His ultimate plan or purpose for us; nor will He allow us to fall out of our identity or inheritance in Him, as long as we continue to commit our ways to the Lord (Proverbs 16:3).
Kings and queens don’t struggle in terms of wrestling with the world, its ways, or with people, because they know who they are, they know where their authority comes from, and they are secure in their inheritance. As sons and daughters of the Most Royal and Holy Father, we also need not struggle with worldly or fleshly ways, because we are kings and queens whose identity is found in the King of kings and the Lord of lords! It is in Him that we live and move and have our being (Acts 17:28), know our identity, and have secured our inheritance. Sometimes, we forget this. But one thing is sure, when we do experience this temporary lapse, the mercy and the goodness of the Father draws us back to where we need to be, which is always in Him.
Father, thank You that we are royalty because we are your sons and daughters. Thank you that we live, breath, move and have our being in You. We thank you for leading us down the old paths, the ancient paths, which begin and end in You. We thank You, Most Faithful Father, for keeping us in all of our ways (Psalm 91:11). In Jesus Name, we thank you that never will You leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5); and by your tender mercies, You always keep us and draw us close to your side. Amen and Amen.
Take action! Challenge your thinking! Choose to know who you are in Jesus Christ. Choose to decree and declare your identity, your spiritual authority, and your spiritual inheritance every day. Remind yourself, as often as you need to, that you are a child of the Most High King! And continue to fight the good fight of not wrestling in the flesh, but rather flowing in the Spirit; for God, your Kingdom, Power, and Authority, has already given you the victory!
