Eventually this trio comes upon a cabin with a couple of injured men from Lucky Pepper’s (played by Robert Duvall) men, Pepper is the leader of the gang Chaney rides with. Cogburn and La Boeuf try getting the two men to speak, as one of them lay dying he tells them that the gang should be at the cabin soon.
When Pepper and his gang arrive the next morning there is a shoot out. With Pepper and most of his men escaping. The trio continues to pursue the gang to try to get Chaney.
