The following article is part of an ongoing effort to help homeless dogs in and around Toronto/Hamilton area find suitable and loving homes. Currently, the need is great but the homes are few. Your help is desperately needed.
Pomeranian and Small Breed Rescue of Hamilton, Ontario would like to tell you about Rusty, a 6-year-old Shih Tzu/Yorkshire Terrier/Yorkie mix.
According to his foster parent, it seems this dear boy is full of vim and vinegar, as they say.
“Although Rusty enjoys the occasional couch potato session, he can be quite the little spitfire with a lot of physical and mental energy to burn. He is bright, extremely inquisitive, and always alert to what is going on around him. He loves to play with his toys – especially treat puzzle toys and anything that squeaks.”
Rusty also likes to play fetch and “effortlessly catapults himself on and off the sofa like it’s a trampoline. Racing up and down stairs – even uncarpeted ones – presents no challenge to him. We also heard that he is able to keep pace with a cyclist over distances exceeding several kilometers” and would be a great candidate for agility training. This lively little guy will definitely need a fenced in yard!
He is a Shih Tzu that likes to give kisses and “enjoys nestling closely to his humans during down time.” When out in the car and when being groomed, he is well behaved.
Rusty was surrendered to the rescue “because his owner wanted to give him the opportunity to be with a family that could spend more quality time with him,” said his foster parent. He is usually wary of strangers at first but if the right person passes his “inspection,” they could be the perfect match. He would likely get along well with another canine friend as well.
He needs a home where he can continue to learn that he can’t always have his own way and where boundaries will be set for him so he does not become confused about who’s the boss. He is neutered, up-to-date on his routine shots and housetrained. It would be best for him to go to a home without young children.
If you believe you have the time and energy to devote to Rusty, email firstname.lastname@example.org and put ‘Pet Inquiry: Rusty – NEW PFId#25241069’ in the subject line.
