There is just over one week left before the second half of season three of “The Walking Dead” kicks off. ComicBookMovie.com reported on Feb. 1 that actor David Morrisey did a recent magazine interview where he talked about his character of the Governor and the eventual confrontation with hero Rick Grimes.
The confrontation between Rick and The Governor is something fans of the comics have been waiting for. In the comics, things went differently, with Rick, Michonne and Glen meeting the governor before anyone else did and then Rock realizing the Governor was going to sacrifice them to the zombies for his town’s amusement.
In the comics, The Governor already had just one eye, was openly sociopathic and actually raped Michonne, causing her to do unspeakable things to him in vengeance.
In the television series, The Governor looked outwardly to be a normal, respectable human being, who only looked out for the well-being of his people. However, he turned out to be a power-hungry control freak behind the scenes who would kill anyone who threatened his rule over the town. He won over Andrea, but Michonne did not trust him.
“As an audience you can see that no one’s safe and there are surprises within that,” Morrissey said. “What’s great about ‘The Walking Dead’ is that it’s not frightened of killing off its leading actors.”
By the midseason finale, he captured and tortured Glen and Maggie, sentenced Daryl to fight to the death, and watched as Michonne not only killed his zombie daughter but also took his eye out. Now, he is about to face his main nemesis, Rick.
“What I’ve liked about the season so far is that it’s full of surprises,” Morrissey said. “Obviously the stars might be aligned for Rick and the Governor to have some sort of meeting, but maybe the show will shoot that in a very surprising way. I think it’s not going to give you what you want in the way that you want it, and I think that’s what I’ve enjoyed in the second half of the season.”
