Survey says: Giving up pizza is harder than giving up Facebook

by snap twig

As of this week, most Americans will hit the crucial time where resolutions begin to waver and people succumb to their cravings. And when it comes to making sacrifices in 2013, most say it would be easier to give up social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter for the entire year than favorite foods such as pizza, potato chips and french fries. So, if you’re going to give in to those pizza cravings, make it worth the calories with these New York pizzerias.

This upscale pizzeria opened over the summer by the man behind restaurants like Ai Fiori and Marea – Michael White. All pies are made fresh to order, and use thin, crispy crust and unique, fresh Italian toppings. Try the Patatona with crushed yukon gold potatoes, Nueske’s bacon, caramelized onions, rosemary and creme fraiche for a completely new pizza experience. Or make it your way choosing from a wide variety of toppings such as fried eggplant, calabrian chiles, broccoli rabe, fennel sausage, gorgonzola or aged provolone cheese.

Designed to resemble a crowded train station, this Mario Batali pizzeria is definitely worth breaking your resolution. The pizza crust is crisp and thin, highlighting the delectable ingredients. You can get traditional options like the Quattro Formaggi, with tomato, mozzarella, taleggio, cacio and ricotta cheeses. Or go completely cheeseless with the Marinara – which is topped with a luscious, spicy tomoato sauce, fresh garlic gloves and spicy chiles – but absolutely no cheese!

New to the West Village, this restaurant offers a “Social Italian” experience along with tantalizing wood-oven pizzas. The Di Parma is a crowd favorite, with proscuitto and arugula piled high on top of fresh mozzarella cheese and a delightfully crispy, thin crust. Or for something a little different, order the Pollo, topped with slow-braised and pulled spicy chicken, bel paese and ricotta cheese.

Calorie-Counters

While not “fine dining,” if you’re looking for a diet-friendly option, try Sbarro’s new Skinny Slice. At only 270 calories per slice, the Skinny Slice is prepared with delicious, premium ingredients including roasted red and green bell peppers, portobello mushrooms and sweet, caramelized onions topped with a sprinkling of mozzarella and pecorino romano cheeses. It is sure to satisfy your pizza craving.
