I thought it only reasonable to suspend my mockery of the president throughout inauguration week. Admittedly, Democrats are so far in the closet about the party’s future plans they have senators proofreading their three-year late budget proposal in Narnia. But it was Obama’s big day, so I figured no maleficent commentary, just play it classy amidst an-address-meant-to-salve-a-divided-nation.
No surprise, you give Obama an inch and he takes a yard, a house, and a slew of unconstitutional “recess” appointments. Wenceslas has nothing on Good King Barry holding his sword to the heavens while loudly proclaiming the majesty bestowed upon him by the powers of Grayskull.
Why I just feel like the only munchkin in Oz who couldn’t make it down to DC to see the wizard.
And don’t listen to Obama’s take on conservatism; I’m not some kind of hyper-individualistic hermit defensively reassuring strangers that when you really think about it science fiction is actually quite rugged and manly.
I have friends.
Well, not a lot of friends – but I have some.
And they love me for who I am. It’s either that or they’re just humoring me. I can’t tell which (hap tip collectivism).
Oh John, why can’t you be like everybody else?
Some things are just not to be known, but maybe it’s because I shouldn’t have to be.
Seriously guys, I once was a Democrat many years ago until I rebelled against the hive mind. So let me give you your fair share of the warning: nasty things come in pretty packages.
Speaking thus, Mister President given the tone of your inaugural address if people keep asking questions about Benghazi at the State of the Union why don’t you skip the pageantry, hold up your arms, and growl like an ogre?
At least Hillary didn’t bite the bullet after hours of congressional testimony that ultimately proved as harrowing as the Bosnian sniper fire she dodged so many years ago.
I think the big takeaway from all this is that nobody important did anything wrong – not even the guy who made that video no one had ever heard of.
In other news, I’m not fat. Freezing cold weather is finally here and this has all been eight months and thirty extra pounds of strategic obesity.
Anyway, glad the whole Libyan debacle has been put to bed. I couldn’t take another minute of President Obama lecturing from his teleprompter as the press corps made like a bunch of star-struck school children.
Good job apple polishers!
However, I do have a suggestion to assuage anyone who might have cringed when America’s outgoing secretary of state responded to that one question about the causal motivations behind the attack in Benghazi.
“With all due respect the fact is we had four dead Americans. Was it because of a protest or was it because of guys out for a walk one night who decided to go kill some Americans? What different, at those point, does it make? It is our job to figure out what happened and do everything we can to prevent it from ever happening again…”
A laudable sentiment, but understanding those motivations – along with the nonexistent timeline detailing how the White House responded – would be helpful in preventing a repeat.
Still, I get ferreting out and displaying that information would put the media in a difficult position – so here’s my thought, and I’m serious about it.
What difference, at this point, does it make?
You don’t have to actually publish anything. No deadlines, no political ramifications, the election is over. So just take your keyboard and write up the story of what you genuinely think was going on with this administration in Benghazi.
Then delete it.
This edition of the Sunday Smiles Section includes – Larry Kudlow with Bob Costa and Matt Lewis, Mark Levin, Hugh Hewitt with Mark Steyn, Chris Stigall, and Dennis Miller – a small sampling of quips, non sequiturs, sarcastic commentary, and anything else that might put a smile on your face.
Larry Kudlow Show 01/27/13 on New York’s 770 AM WABC
Speaking with National Review’s Bob Costa on this weekend’s National Review summit
Costa: I just thought I’d briefly share a quick quote from this NR summit. Dr. Charles Krauthammer was here last night, he gave a great talk. And here’s what he said: there’s a reason why in New York harbor we have the Statue of Liberty, not the Statue of Equality.
Speaking with the Daily Caller’s Matt Lewis on the optics of becoming the party of austerity
Lewis: I think there’s a reason it’s called the Club for Growth, not the Club for Cuts.
Mark Levin Show 01/25/13 on Philadelphia’s 106.9 FM WWIQ
On the recent DC circuit court ruling against President Obama’s recess appointments
Mark: If you say other presidents have abused the recess appointment clause you’re absolutely right – Republicans and Democrats. But Obama pushed the envelope’s edge so far that Landmark Legal, other groups, and other parties decided alright it’s time to deal with this. So it went to court. You see, Obama could have pretty liberal leeway when it comes to these “recess appointments” but he took it one step too far – as he always does. He said I’m going to declare the Senate in recess. I’m going to make these appointments! Catch me if you can! Well we caught you pal, didn’t we?
Hugh Hewitt Show 01/24/13 on Philadelphia’s 990 AM WNTP
Speaking with Mark Steyn regarding Hillary Clinton’s “what difference does it make” remark (aka “the Hillary Doctrine”)
Steyn: What difference does it make? That’s the great line. It’s a beautiful line. I got to hand it to Secretary Clinton in that it nullifies all the checks and balances the world’s greatest constitutional scholars could ever devise with an all perfect answer. They should replace “E Pluribus Unum” with “What difference does it make?” I tell you…if Paul Krugman ever goes ahead with that trillion-dollar-coin idea they should have “What difference does it make” on the coin too.
Chris Stigall Show 01/23/13 on Philadelphia’s 1210 AM WPHT
Speaking with Daryl Metcalfe of Pennsylvania’s House of Representatives regarding right-to-work legislation
Chris: Yesterday you were pretty busy and you have launched what I am sure is going to be met with all kinds of fury – an initiative to make Pennsylvania the 25th state of the Union that is a right-to-work state. And I’m sure you know if you’ve watched the news here in the last couple years wilting flowers [they] are not on the opposition of this movement.
Dennis Miller Show 01/23/13 on Lehigh Valley’s 1100 AM WGPA
Speaking with his show producer regarding Hillary Clinton’s testimony on Benghazi
Dennis: Alright, this morning Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is finally speaking to a House and Senate committee. I just saw Marco Rubio probing her and I think he questions her a little later in the hour about September’s attack in Benghazi. I don’t have the sound up. I assume this is being blamed on Bush. And as we all know there’s nothing like public testimony from a Clinton a scant 120 days after the fact to make sure that you get everything – all the ducks in a row.
Christian: All our questions will be answered. It’s like the Lost finale. We’ll know everything.
Rush Limbaugh Show 01/21/13 on Philadelphia’s 106.9 FM WWIQ
Guest Host Mark Steyn on President Obama’s inauguration
Steyn: I know some of you may have a distressingly partisan view of the festivities in Washington. You may not be on board with all the jubilation. So look at it this way: Today marks the midpoint of the Obama presidency. In other words, this is hump day. It’s all downhill from here!
