The awards season continued last night, Jan. 27, with the 19th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards airing on TNT and TBS. The usual stars shone brightly, however there were a few standout red carpet celebrity hairstyles from the SAG Awards that deserve an honorable mention for inching slightly away from the norm.
Sexy Hollywood, old school glamorous celebrity hairstyles prevailed on the SAG Awards’ red carpet with similar coifs to those that were visible at the Golden Globes; nothing new or significant worth repeating, except for a few short, bold hairstyles that exuded confidence and sex appeal.
Sultry actress, Morena Baccarin of “Homeland” stood out with her short, bold, yet elegant hairstyle for the 19th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. Her top and sides were swept into a sleek French twist with a side part, a touch of height, pulled up and away from her face, fastened by a gecko hair clip that showed off her cropped under layer of hair. Her gown may have landed Morena Baccarin on the “Fashion Police’s” worst dressed list, but her hairstyle was a breath of fresh air.
This professional was in love with all of the short celebrity hairstyles seen on SAG’s red carpet, especially Michelle Dockery of “Downton Abbey” who apparently revealed more breast than hair. Dockery’s hairstyle was a shorter reflection of the lengthier looks that were pulled off to the side, showcasing her long neck, creating a chic hairstyle for the awards.
Julia Stiles and January Jones donned short red carpet celebrity hairstyles for the SAG Awards, but their looks required slightly more salon time to balance the do with the threads, which unfortunately earned them both a spot on the “Fashion Police’s” worst dressed list as well.
Although Julia Stiles’ haircut seen at the SAG awards is a perfect length for a new mom, the hairstyle was a little frumpy, giving the young actress more of a matronly look than that of a Hollywood starlet. Stiles style would have benefitted from sweeping the hair to the side or straightening the locks, adding a touch of volume, giving the same look a piecey effect.
The back of January Jones’s sleek hairstyle was stunning, but the front was off kilter; more like the celebrity pompadour gone awry, than the look her stylist may have been aiming for.
Even with the critiques, the fact that these four women, January Jones, Julia Stiles, Michelle Dockery and Morena Baccarin changed their celebrity hairstyles from the customary red carpet fare was inspiring to say the least. More to come with a step-by-step guide recreating Nicole Kidman’s standout red carpet celebrity hairstyles worn at the SAG and PGA Awards.
