Saturday was the National Day of Resistance for citizens who support Constitutional gun rights. Thousands of Americans gathered in towns and cities across the country to protest the recent proposals for gun control and gun bans, vowing that they will not obey any law that violates the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which states, “…the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”
Ever since the mass shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. in December, the Obama administration and Congressional Democrats have rolled out a series of proposed laws that would directly infringed on Second Amendment rights, including gun bans, registration of gun and ammunition purchases, limits on the number of bullets a citizen can possess, and a ban on so-called high capacity magazines. The proposals also include measures that would effectively outlaw private, citizen to citizen sales of firearms via an innocuous sounding “universal background check” law.
The proposals have created a massive backlash, however, among the population. Citizens in New York state, for example, gathered in Buffalo to confront law enforcement officials over the state’s new draconian gun restrictions, passed by the legislature and signed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, D-N.Y. The citizens threatened the officials with mass civil disobedience if they attempt to enforce the new laws and vowed to start militia groups to counter law enforcement, although none of those in attendance at the meeting had ever been involved with the militia movement.
A half dozen or more gun manufacturers, further, have threatened to move their businesses out of states that pass such strict gun control measures. The manufacturers have also implemented a ban on sales to law enforcement agencies located in states that support strict gun control, such as New York, Illinois, Colorado, and California.
The backlash has been felt in states that are considered gun-friendly as well. South Carolina, Oklahoma, Texas, and others have courted gun manufacturers, encouraging them to relocate to their states and abandon those states that have made it clear that the gun and ammo business is not welcomed any longer, in spite of the fact that the firearms industry has enjoyed a boom as no other in the midst of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression.
South Carolina in particular is overwhelmingly gun friendly. But one would never know it if one watches a local news outlet, WSPA-TV Channel 7 on a regular basis.
The station has been known to take a hard line against guns in the past, blaming Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright for a slight increase in murders, citing his much-publicized views that encourage citizens, women in particular, to arm themselves and take concealed carry training classes. The station also used the infamous ultra-leftwing Southern Poverty Law Center of Montgomery, Ala. to attack citizens who believe in gun rights and who support citizen militias.
WSPA reported on the National Day of Resistance Saturday evening in its 11 p.m. news broadcast. But in doing so it spent as much if not more time talking about an anti-gun rally that is scheduled for the following week than reporting on the pro-gun event itself. The organizer for the anti-gun rally was given an extensive interview.
One is led to wonder why such obvious bias is incorporated into a news segment about pro-gun activists, particularly in a state where firearms rights are valued. Not only that, but one wonders why an avid anti-gun group would be given such free publicity in a news segment that was supposed to be about a pro-gun rally.
Although the tide is turning against gun control measures in the country, apparently WSPA is behind the curve on the issue. And, as all mainstream media outlets have done that have bought into the progressive agenda that is anathema to conservative values, the station has placed itself in diametric opposition to most of the citizens in the region who oppose the current tide of the political ruling class to stick its nose of control into every single aspect of our lives.
