Fans of Jane Austen will be delighted to see the new stamp collection released by the Royal Mail.
The collection celebrates Austen’s six novels Sense and Sensibility, Mansfield Park, Emma, Northanger Abbey, Persuasion, and Pride and Prejudice.
This new stamp set comes on the heels of the 200th anniversary of Pride and Prejudice celebrated at the end of January, and joins another commemorative stamp set released in 1975 with drawings by Barbara Brown.
This new set of stamps were designed by Essex illustrator Angela Barrett, and can be purchased online for £5.30 including VAT.
Barrett, who studied at the Royal College of Art, has had her illustrations appear in the Sunday Times Magazine, the Observer Magazine, and House and Garden.
Her work has been described as having “a stillness and a quiet atmospheric intensity”, and the rich detail in which she pays homage to these classic British works will surely make this set of six stamps a collectors item for lovers of both art and literature.
