In November 2010, Ingmar Guandique was convicted of murdering Chandra Levy and was sentenced to 60 years in prison. Now, almost 12 years after Levy disappeared, defense attorneys for Guandique and prosecutors in the case have met twice to discuss testimony from a new “secret witness.”
Chandra Levy captured the country’s attention when she went missing in May 2001. In the course of the investigation into her disappearance and search for her body, it came to light that Levy was having a romantic relationship with then married U. S. Representative Gary Condit.
It took investigators more than a year to find Chandra Levy’s skeletal remains in Rock Creek Park. Seven years later, Salvadoran immigrant and convicted rapist, Ingmar Guandique, was arrested.
Investigators learned about Ingmar Guandique involvement when one of his former cellmates, Armando Morales claimed he made a jailhouse confession. Morales claimed Guandique told him that he killed Chandra Levy during a robbery.
As word came out that a “secret witness” has come forward Chandra Levy’s father Robert Levy spoke with FoxNews.com and revealed that he was concerned Guandique’s conviction could be in jeopardy.
Robert Levy said about the meeting between attorneys, “It’s all secret. No one is allowed in there. It’s about some witness.” The attorneys on both side have gotten together twice since December 2012. According to Robert Levy, the meetings have been kept “tightly under wraps” by the U.S. attorney’s office in Washington.
Information on whether or not Morales is the secret witness has not been released, nor has any information on the testimony. However, the meetings have led to an agreement for Guandique’s appeal to be temporarily on hold.
Superior Court Judge Gerald Fisher ordered Guandique to appear in court on February 7. Robert Levy said, “It would not be good for anybody” if Guandique were released on prosecutorial errors.
