The gaming industry may have taken some pretty brutal hits lately, the most recent being the closure and absorption of developer and publisher THQ, but these spouts of negativity are doing little to waiver the overall devotion that gamers have for their beloved medium. One such example of this ever-strong love and support for gaming is the LVL UP expo taking place in Henderson, NV during the weekend of Feb 16. Though it won’t match the size of other conventions like the annual Electronics Entertainment Expo (E3), LVL UP’s first year run is promising to be an exciting tribute to the gaming industry and those fans that keep it running.amuse
Not unlike other nerd-fests, LVL UP will feature an assortment of special guest appearances that geeks both near and far may recognize. Included in the guest list are the sexy vixens of L33T Ladies, members of the Immortal Gamers League, and the cast of the Las Vegas performance of the critically acclaimed “Evil Dead: The Musical”. When guests aren’t sidetracked by these pseudo-celebrity interactions, they can find themselves immersed in a world of merchandise with a line-up of vendors that will include ice cream connoisseur, Baskin Robins, with a mix of video game inspired creations and other as-of-yet unannounced booths.
No expo would be complete without events, and LVL UP looks to deliver its fair share. From meet and greets with gaming personalities to an impressive line-up of tournaments, guests will be hard pressed to not find something to for their tastes. Gamers can register for tournaments that include “Tekken Tag Tournament 2”, “Super Smash Bros. Brawl”, “Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3”, “Mortal Kombat”, “Halo 4”, “Primal Carnage”, “Call of Duty: Black Ops 2”, and card and table top games such as “Warhammer 40,000” and “Magic: The Gathering”.
The LVL UP expo starts on Feb 16, 2013 at the Henderson Convention Center on South Water Street. Tickets are on sale now for a discounted price and can be purchased at the expo’s official website, LVLUPexpo.com. If you’re planning on attending, now would be the time to start on your best gaming cosplay. Registration for the Cosplay Ball begins at 11:00am on Feb 17. Each cosplay will be judged by guest judges and, of course, prizes will be handed out for best-in-show.
