There’s a fabulous grab-and-go eatery on Solano in Berkeley that has got it right when it comes to easy carry-out veg food.
Last weekend, the Vegan Professional’s Business Boot Camp in Berkeley was meal-served by Nature’s Express, who also caters in addition to serving at their establishment.
Nature’s Express is the first restaurant to offer menu items verified by the Non‐GMO Project. Non‐GMO Project Verified is a designation by natural foods stores, and Nature’s Express is setting the standard for other local restaurants.
According to the non-GMO project:
GMOs, or “Genetically Modified Organisms,” are plants or animals created through the process of genetic engineering. This experimental technology forces DNA from one species into a different species. The resulting GMOs are unstable combinations of plant, animal, bacterial and viral genes that cannot occur in nature or in traditional breeding. Studies increasingly show a connection between GMOs and an array of health risks and environmental concerns.
While GMOs are labeled or banned in most developed countries, in the U.S. and Canada they are unlabeled and are found in more than 70% of processed food. As Americans increasingly look to avoid GMOs, the Non‐GMO Project label has gained rapid popularity, growing 219% last year. But until now, the labeling has been restricted to grocery stores.
“People have a right to know what they’re eating,” says Megan Westgate, Executive Director of the Non‐GMO Project. “Whether dining in or eating out, most of us don’t want experimental genetically engineered ingredients. Now that Nature’s Express has Non‐GMO Project Verified menu items, Berkeley residents will be the first in the nation to have a reliable non‐GMO restaurant option.”
Nature’s Express is located on Solano Avenue in Berkeley with lots of dining options and offers the convenience of a grab and go menu. Fresh house made burgers, salads, wraps, sandwiches and soups are on the menu, along with smoothies, juices, baked goods and a even a kids menu!
Enjoy indoor and outdoor dining. You can also order by phone in advance.
