When Sadie, a reporter who likes the dirtier stories, wakes up in the morgue it isn’t long before she realizes that she is a vampire. Vowing revenge upon the group that made her undead, she hunts them down one by one.
Lucy Liu (Sadie), Robert Forster (Lloyd), Cameron Richardson (Collette), Michael Chiklis (Clyde).
A mildly interesting plot which never develops beyond mildly interesting unfortunately. The movie jumps in with hardly any character or story development and as you wait, it never comes. Most of the movie is spent trying to figure out what is happening right up to the end at which point you realize, there isn’t anything going on. The redeeming qualities of the film were the nudity, gore, violence, language, and drug use. Beyond that there isn’t much to hold interest in this one except the mistaken hope it will get better. But the surprise you keep hoping for will never come.
There didn’t seem to be a lot of energy between the actors but then, without coherent character development it would be hard to see anyway. Obviously there was some money behind the film considering they got Liu, Chiklis, and Forster on the cast.
Sets were well done, costuming was nice, and special effects were decent so the quality was there, the energy just never developed and the story felt flat.
If you are a diehard vampire fan, Liu fan, or absolutely must see anything with Marilyn Manson in it – this one is for you. For everyone else, scratch this one off your list and find something with some meat.
This one is definitely adults only with nudity, gore, violence, drug use, and foul language.
Rise: Blood Hunter is no longer showing in any Littleton, Colorado movie theatres.
