South Florida – Slow Burn Theatre is joining the ranks of some of the best live theatres in Florida. Maltz Jupiter Theatre, Actors Playhouse and Boca Raton Theatre Guild can bring in Broadway professionals to top them by just a hair, but Slow Burn Theatre is casting their shows local, offering affordable tickets prices and giving their actors incentives to sell tickets. “Winner of 2011 Silver Palm Award Slow Burn is doing theatre with heart and soul.” BroadwayGlobal.
“The production values of Sound, Lighting, Costumes, Set, Direction, Choreography and vocals for “Side Show” put Slow Burn on the Florida map for “fun in the sun arts destination” now they might not have enough production dates in their 800 seat theatre to be nominated for Carbonell Awards, but the Carbonell Awards may want to look at their rules because Slow Burn is here to stay and in a BIG way!” Theatre Chat.
Sadly, their current show “Side Show” closes today. With a hectic schedule to see many new top Broadway musicals and Florida live theatre productions I was not able to attend the opening night which I will regret for a long time. Every cast member hit their mark and then some. “Based on the true story of Siamese twins Violet and Daisy Hilton who became stars during the Depression, “Side Show” is a moving portrait of two women joined at the hip whose extraordinary bond brings them fame but denies them love. Nominated for four Tony awards, the show follows their progression from England to America, around the vaudeville circuit and to Hollywood on the eve of their appearance in the 1932 movie “Freaks”. Slow Burn.

Sweeney Todd April 12, 2012 through April 21, 2013. The rare instance of a musical thriller, Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler’s chilling, suspenseful, heart-pounding masterpiece of murderous barber-ism and culinary crime Sweeney Todd tells the infamous tale of the unjustly exiled barber who returns to 19th century London seeking revenge against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. His thirst for blood soon expands to include his unfortunate customers, and the resourceful proprietress of the pie shop downstairs soon has the people of London lining up in droves with her mysterious new meat pie recipe!
The Wedding Singer June 21, 2013 through June 30, 2013. It’s 1985 and rock-star wannabe Robbie Hart is New Jersey’s favorite wedding singer. He’s the life of the party, until his own fiancée leaves him at the altar. Shot through the heart, Robbie makes every wedding as disastrous as his own. Enter Julia, a winsome waitress who wins his affection. Only trouble is Julia is about to be married to a Wall Street shark, and unless Robbie can pull off the performance of a decade, the girl of his dreams will be gone forever. With a brand new score that pays loving homage to the pop songs of the 1980′s, The Wedding Singer takes us back to a time when hair was big, greed was good, collars were up, and a wedding singer might just be the coolest guy in the room.
