Two more celebrity couples have joined the no-more land of relationships, we’re sorry to report.
Michelle Williams and Jason Segel, both 32, ‘quietly ended their relationship earlier this month,’ according to US Magazine, where sources revealed that the main cause of the split derived from a long distance issue. Segel resides in Los Angeles where he films his long-running hit sitcom How I Met Your Mother , while Williams lives in New York City, with her seven-year-old daughter Matilda, one she shares with the late Heath Ledger.
The couple has been together, in what appeared to be a blissful and mutually satisfying union, since the start of 2012 when they were introduced by Williams’ best friend and Segel’s co-star Busy Phillips.
As recently as last month, they were photographed as happy as can be during a beach vacation in Mexico, where Phillips joined them with her husband, which made the shock tied to their split that much more poignant.
The couple, beloved by their fans as individuals and even more so as a union, were extremely private and protective when it came to their relationship. They reluctantly touched upon the subject in interviews, only proclaiming that they were happy and thankful that the public approves of that. They were frequently photographed walking around New York accompanied by little Matilda, who seemed to have formed quite a loving bond with mom’s now ex-boyfriend.
This was the first public relationship for Williams, following her split from Heath Ledger who died of an overdose in 2008 – just five months following their separation.
Another couple that has reportedly parted ways, though it may be just for a while, is Rachel McAdams and Michael Sheen.
The two actors first met while working together on Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris and went public with their union in October 2010.
Although the determining cause of the split has not been reported, it is a fact that McAdams, 34 and Sheen ,43, had also struggled with what seems to be the most vicious killer of celebrity love: long distance.
A native of Canada, McAdams spends most of her time in Toronto, while Sheen divides his time between his native Wales and Los Angeles.
‘Michael and I never spend more than three weeks apart – we rack up a lot of air miles – but you have to be quite adaptable in this business whether you are in a relationship or not. Trying to establish roots somewhere is a bit of a joke,’ said McAdams in a past interview.
She noted that the key to the couple’s successful relationship is communication, adding: ‘You need to trust each other and be able to talk to each other and be best friends.’
Sheen has a 14-year-old daughter named Lily from his relationship with fellow actress Kate Beckinsale. McAdams was notoriously tied to her The Notebook co-star Ryan Gosling, before they ended their real-life love affair in 2007.
We are wholeheartedly rooting for a reconciliation for both of these couples.
