Over the past couple of years, the great state of Texas and most of the United States has been in the midst of a craft beer renaissance. Sure, we have been enjoying craft beer for a much longer period of time, but the past two years have been especially fruitful for the development and opening of more craft breweries and brewpubs than many thought possible. The number of brewing operations has swelled beyond the 2,000 mark nationally and continues to move higher with each passing week.
Here in the greater Houston area, we now have another brewery to add to our growing list. The company is Lone Pint Brewery, located in the northwest suburb of Magnolia, TX about 45 miles from downtown Houston. I learned about this latest addition to the Houston area brewing family only recently and quickly visited the company web site, Facebook page, etc., to learn as much as I could about our newest brewing operation. Here is a quick rundown of some Lone Pint Brewing essentials:
Company Name: Lone Pint Brewery
Location: 507 Commerce St., Magnolia, TX
When Founded: Fall of 2012
Owners: Trevor Brown and his sister, Heather, plus a few other investors
Brewery Size: 30 BBL
Distribution: Kegs only for now, around Houston area, Dallas, and San Antonio
Tours: Will begin sometime in 2013
Browsing through its web site, I discovered that Lone Pint Brewery presently brews five different products:
667 Neighbor of the Beast:
Our American India Pale Ale is chocked full of hop flavor and aroma. Select American malt and hops bestow upon this brew hints of grapefruit and peach.
Our American Strong Ale; light malty sweetness with good hop flavor.
Lily & Seamus:
Our American Wheat; dry & crisp with a delicate floral hoppiness.
Our Imperial India Pale Ale; light and sweet malt profile with a huge hop punch.
Our Northern English Brown Ale; strikes a nice balance between caramel-nuttiness and clean hoppiness.
I asked co- owner Trevor Brown about his startup brewery and he said that he first got interested in brewing back in college when he took up the home brewing hobby for the first time. He says he immediately fell in love with brewing beer and decided that doing what he loved best was the way he wanted to make a living. With determination and a mutual interest with family and friends, he founded Lone Pint Brewery just a few months ago.
Lone Pint Brewery products are presently distributed around the Houston area and Trevor told me the plan is to continue offering kegged beer for the next year, and then add bottled beer sometime in 2014. Of course, plans like these often run astray and the bottling has to be delayed, but that is forecast for now. Until that time, craft beer fans can enjoy Lone Pint beer by visiting any of the numerous taverns, restaurants, and other establishments with Lone Pint on tap.
Houston craft brewing is on the rise and Lone Pint Brewery is a welcome addition to the local brewing scene. Visit the Lone Pint Brewery web site, add Lone Pint Brewery to your Facebook fan list, and otherwise do what you can to welcome the Houston area’s newest brewing operation. And be sure to check the “on Tap” link in the Lone Pint web site for a list of places selling the company’s products, then make your way to one of them and sample a pint or two of beer from Magnolia’s first ever brewery, Lone Pint.
