Where can we eat nearby?
Making a day trip out of visiting a college campus must include good places to eat as well as to visit. At the southeastern edge of campus (SCTR on campus map), a brand new complex featuring restaurants, stores, and services can be found along Rt. 195 and Dog Lane. It’s called Storrs Center (look!), well worth a visit to see what’s complete as construction continues.
Storrs Center boasts a number of establishments that are up and running. Some of the places to eat so far include the Dog Lane Cafe, Husky Pizza, Moe’s Southwest Grill, Mooyah Burgers and Fries, Subway, and 7-eleven.
Dog Lane Cafe
At Dog Lane Cafe, one finds a cozy and contemporary ambiance and a varied menu for any time of the day. Enjoy a relaxed atmosphere that will make you feel part of the campus no matter your age; everyone seems to feel welcome here. The dessert counter certainly catches one’s eye and the coffee bar offers several types of fresh brews. The soup will warm and delight on a cold day. There’s something for every palate here.
Several stores cater to one’s sweet teeth! First, imagine an old-fashioned candy store called Sweet Emotions Candy to delight the young and the young-at-heart. Use all your senses as you enter this small shop that’s large on offerings. Among other things, a variety of choose-your-own goodies awaits, including many flavors of gumballs and gummy-types-of-things that amuse as well as satisfy any sweet desire. Second, just around the corner, there’s FroyoWorld which also lets our minds wander to summertime and warm weather. Third, imagine a cookie store that will deliver its delicacies on campus from between 1 p.m. – 3 a.m. Here is Insomnia Cookies which runs smartly and sweetly on a typical student’s schedule.
As you drive up Dog Lane from Rt. 195, there’s a parking garage toward the right and a parking lot to the left. Both options indicate two free hours of parking while shopping/dining in the Storrs Center. There are no meters that seem to be keeping track of time, but someone must be doing so because a tow truck was noticed hauling a car from the lot on one blustery visit.
Several services and shops also are part of this newly constructed community area. They include an automotive shop, a bank ATM, a barber/styling shop, a convenience store, a flower shop, a tattoo and body piercing shop, and a travel agency. Enjoy the realm of what’s offered at Storrs Center!
