Jimmy Kimmel and Morrissey are in a fight! While Kimmel took to his show “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” to poke fun at the famously dismal singer, Morrissey came out with a scathing statement about Kimmel and his show on Wednesday which only fueled the flames of this latest celebrity feud.
Jimmy Kimmel took to his show “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on Tuesday to respond to Morrissey after the melancholy pop singer, famous for his upbeat tempos coupled with words of despair, cancelled a performance on Kimmel’s show because Kimmel’s scheduled guests included cast members from the A&E show “Duck Dynasty”.
The “Meat is Murder” indie singer is also known for his animal rights activism spanning well over 25 years.
Morrissey, 53, sent Kimmel a written statement about his refusal to perform on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”, calling the “Duck Dynasty” stars “animal serial killers” because their business revolves around duck hunting.
Kimmel responded by saying while he understands the misery that Morrissey feels for animals, he must defer to the guys from “Duck Dynasty” because “they have guns”. He also gave Morrissey props for continuing to find new and innovate ways to depress us.
In a testy response to Kimmel on Wednesday, Morrissey sent a statement which read in part:
Furthermore, [Kimmel] found time to jokingly promote gun-ownership — hugely amusing for the parents at Sandy Hook, no doubt. [Kimmel] also promoted his special guests [from] Duck Dynasty – who kill beings for fun. None of the above issues are, of course, as important as Jimmy Kimmel himself, who has finally revealed his show to have an overwhelming loss of meaning. Tune in and relive the intellectual fog of the 1950s.
The odd couple battle continued on Twitter, with Kimmel tweeting late Wednesday night, “Note to Morrissey – if you have more dumb statements to make, I invite you to make them where I do, on my show.”
Kimmel included the a photo from Morrissey’s 2003 record, making a not-so-subtle connection towards implied hypocrisy with Morrissey on his album cover holding a gun, yet the former Smiths front-man claims to be vehemently opposed to gun ownership.
Morrissey has not yet responded to the latest insult. Morrissey’s Twitter account appears to have been inactive since late 2009.
