The immigration debate has been a hot topic for many. It has been used as a political stunt. It has been a heated debate for states like Arizona with border issues, and many ask the question can the American economy bear the brunt of something as drastic as immigration reform especially if President Obama enacts the Dream Act.
Now today President Obama is saying that now is the time for immigration reforms to take place.
But is it? My question is how can we have a country if we have open borders and allow anyone and everyone through those doors? It is putting us at risk. While on the other hand I understand that some families are separated because of immigration laws and it’s unfair for them not to be able to be together as a family. This is a tough question for anyone.
My views on Immigration reform are simple I wish we would do more to educate the immigrants we already have here in our country. Allow them to learn our country and our language while at the same time not imposing our life style on them but teaching them to have the same respect for us and our cultures and beliefs. Help Immigrant parents learn the English language to help them be more productive in The American Society and not to have to depend on their small school age children to translate and do their business for them. This puts those children at jeopardy and makes the parents helpless and unaware.
The president should enact a family act to help immigrant families to be reunited. Why I say this is because in some cases the immigrants are children and their parents are left back home in another country. The streets are no place for young children. I believe children are angels and should be treated as angels. This brings me to a point; Children alone with no parental guidance open the door for all types of things that should not happen to young children.
Instead of the dream act the president should make a work program for young students who are immigrants. They could have simple jobs doing simple task to help with their schooling and to help them learn needed job skills. This wouldn’t be a free ride and either the funds could be given to the student or applied to their school balance. The president could enact cheaper education for students who met the criteria and not make it just all free financial aid. This same principal could be applied to US students, I say that because so many people go to college and fail to realize how blessed they are. Then they end up partying all the time and some get no education at all, those few end up coming home from college and end up in low paying jobs or have to go back home to their parents.
Education should be considered a right not a privilege and no one should take it for granted. This reform could be a good thing for all students involved if the president takes the right steps to ensure a brighter future for all, while not over burdening our already overburdened economy.
