It seems that all we hear about these days when it comes to our food and health has something to do with GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms). Everywhere you turn there is talk about genetically modified foods and what the dangers are, petitions to stop the manufacturing and growing of them. But there is not a lot of information on how to avoid GMO foods. We are told not to buy and eat GMOs but we are not shown what these foods are. We would have to be shown because most of the public is ignorant to what is a GMO food and what is not. Because there is no law yet that says all GMOs have to be labeled then most of the public is kept in the dark about the truth, so the consumption of GMO foods does not decline.
True some of use, many more in fact than ever, have done our own research and discovered what is a GMO food and what we need to know to avoid GMOs when we go shopping in the grocery store. But not everyone has the time or ability to do this research, or they are just to lazy. The truth is out, GMO foods are deadly, they are a dangerous roulette game that should not be played. Yet there initiative to label GMO foods has defeated in California by massive doses of money by the companies that back GMO food production. Although California will be back this year and every year after until this law passes to label GMOs, the game is still in the hands of Monsanto and Dupont and all the chemical companies that are on board with GMOs.
In fact this year there is a greater amount of states that will have the law on the ballets to label GMOs, and eventually we will win this war. Until then how can concerned consumers avoid GMO food? It’s been made simpler these days due to the enormous care and concern by anti-gmo advocates. To start with if you have never watched the documentary titled, “Genetic Roulette- The gamble of our lives” I highly suggest you do. If after you watch this film you want to own it, you can do so using this link. I would also suggest that if this film changes your perception of food that you show it to everyone you care about! It is about an hour and half long and will enlighten you too just how bad GMOs are for you, animals and the planet.
After you watch this film you will be a changed person I would almost bet on it. I know I was even with the knowledge I have about GMOs and natural health. But the word is getting out and more and more farmers as well as consumers are becoming highly concerned to a point that GMO corn sales have greatly dropped. The demand for non-GMO corn seeds among farmers has made news already in this new year! But here are some steps you can take to avoid GMO foods when you are shopping for your family. Step 1- Buy only organic and make sure that it is non-GMO organic. There are organics now that contain GMO ingredients due to the relaxed policy on what the FDA and USDA considers organic. Unfortunately because GMOs are not controlled and tested properly nor are they regulated we have to be even more vigilant in our buying of food, even when buying organic food.
Step 2- Look for the Non-GMO Project certification. There are more and more companies coming on board the non-GMO project and so the seal can be seen on certain items today. Step 3- Avoid at-risk ingredients including soybeans, canola, cottonseed, corn, and sugar from sugar beets. These are the main ingredients to look for since these are the biggest GMO crops grown in the US. Although, there are by products made with GMO ingredients such as corn too. Knowing what to look for takes time and research on the consumers part. Step 4- Download the non-GMO shopping guide print it and carry it with you everywhere you go. Together we can all make GMOs go away, we beat Monsanto and their GMO crops before when they tried to make others, we also beat the evil monsters that tried to put vaccines in your food years ago! So this year, 2013, when there is a state with a GMO labeling campaign, make sure to support it!
