One Direction’s Harry Styles, 19, has now commented on the performance that his ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift, 23, gave at the 2013 Grammy Awards, when she made an apparent dig at him before she sang her hit “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.” And on Feb. 15, 2013, Styles caused a massive buzz with One Direction fans on the Internet when photos and video footage emerged of Styles singing and kissing heiress Olivia McKee at her 18th birthday party in Manchester, England.
Swift made headlines for apparently mocking Styles when she performed her hit “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” at the 55th Annual Grammy Awards on Feb. 10, 2013. Even though the song was reportedly written about Jake Gyllenhaal (who dated Swift in late 2010), Swift seemed to be talking about Styles (who is British) in a spoken introduction to the song when she performed it at the Grammys. Before launching into the song, Swift said in a fake British accent: “So he calls me up and he’s like, ‘I still love you,’ and I’m like, ‘I’m sorry, I’m busy opening up the Grammys.'”
According to the Daily Mirror, Styles took the high road during a Capital FM radio interview in which he commented about Swift’s 2013 Grammy Awards performance: “Oh it’s fine. She’s a great performer and she’s always good on the stage. She’s done it for a long time. She knows what she’s doing on stage. It was just another good Taylor Swift performance. It was good.”
One Direction was not at the 2013 Grammy Awards since the group was not nominated for any Grammys and was in the midst of tour rehearsals in London.
Styles and Swift (who were nicknamed “Haylor” as a couple) publicly dated from mid-November 2012 to the first week of January 2013. There have been conflicting reports about who broke up with whom, but their split reportedly was not amicable. Styles, Swift and their representatives have refused to make any official comments about the “Haylor” relationship.
One Direction has become the biggest-selling act worldwide to emerge from “The X Factor.” The group came in third place on “The X Factor” U.K. in 2010, and has since had No. 1 hits and sold-out tours in several countries.
On Valentines’ Day 2013 (on Feb. 14), Styles was seen dining alone at Nando’s in Leeds, England. The Daily Mirror reports that Styles told fans: “I’m OK, thanks for asking. Yeah, I’m good. Don’t worry about me.”
Meanwhile, on Feb. 15, 2013, Styles attended heiress Olivia McKee’s 18th birthday party, where he sang “Happy Birthday” to her and kissed her on the cheek. According to the Daily Mirror, the private party was attended by about 100 people and was held at Great John Street Hotel in Manchester, England.
McKee tweeted: “Oh my God, he kissed me. I love Harry. Best night of my life … Thank you Harry Styles for coming to my party!” Her father, Noel McKee, is a multimillionaire who co-founded We Buy Any Car, company that buys and sells used cars.
According to The Sun: “A spokesman for Harry said grammar school girl Olivia was a family friend and that he was not paid to attend the bash. She lives with her parents in Rochdale, Gtr Manchester, and Noel said: ‘I hope I win the award for best dad today.'”
As for Styles and Swift, insiders say that they plan to avoid each other when they both attend the 33rd Annual Brit Awards on Feb. 20, 2013, at the O2 Arena in London. One Direction and Swift will not be seated near each other, and they plan to arrive at the show far apart from each other so there’s no chance that they will be standing near each other on the red carpet.
These plans should come as no surprise, since the former couple avoided each other when One Direction and Taylor Swift attended the 2013 NRJ Music Awards on Jan. 26 in Cannes, France. One Direction and Swift both performed separately on the show, and One Direction won the prize for International Group or Duo of the Year.
One Direction and Swift are also scheduled to perform separately at the 2013 Brit Awards. They are also nominated for prizes at the show. One Direction is up for Best British Group and Best Brits Global Success. Swift is a nominee for Best International Female Solo Artist. One Direction will perform a remake of Blondie’s “One Way or Another” (which goes on sale in the U.K. on Feb. 17, 2013), while Swift is reportedly going to perform “22.”
