Ohio’s maple sugaring season is rapidly coming to a close for 2013. If you haven’t had the opportunity to pay a visit to one of the many Northeast Ohio maple sugaring events or attend a pancake breakfast, you have one more chance to celebrate. Hale Farm & Village in Bath, Ohio is holding their Maple Sugar Festival and pancake breakfast on Saturdays March 16 and 23 and Sundays, March 17 and 24. Hale Farm & Village For over 50 years, Hale Farm & Village has provided lessons in Ohio’s past to its visitors. This premier outdoor living history museum depicts daily life of Western Reserve residents in the 1860’s.
Visitors are able to observe demonstrations of crafts and trades from the era by skilled artisans dressed in period costumes. There are also plenty of farm animals to visit (including oxen Star and Bright) and several historic homes and buildings to tour.
Maple Sugar Festival Presented by Bob Evans restaurants, the Hale Farm & Village Maple Sugar Festival is offering a variety of family-friendly, educational activities for all ages. Some of the activities include learning all about the many steps of maple sugar production and visiting the Sugar Camp (You get to help the staff collect sap!), making maple candy, building a log cabin, watching demonstrations of blacksmithing, glassblowing, spinning, weaving and pottery making and making maple sugar cookies.
The best part of the deal is that the pancake breakfast is included in the price of admission for the Maple Sugar Festival. Pancakes will be served from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m.
Here’s a suggestion if you want to make this family outing truly special. The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad is offering a Maple Sugar Festival Express train excursion that will take passengers right to Hale Farm & Village for the festival and pancake breakfast.
The train departs from the Rockside Station in Independence at 11 a.m. Cost of the train ride is $22 for adults and $17 for children.
Hours for the Maple Sugar Festival at Hale Farm & Village are 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Admission is $15 for adults and $10 for children (3-12). Admission does include all the activities at the Festival and the pancake breakfast.
