The Humane Society of the U.S. reports, “Nationwide, an estimated 6-8 million homeless kittens, puppies, cats, and dogs enter animal shelters every year. About half of these animals are adopted. Tragically, the other half are put down. The majority of animals euthanized are healthy, sweet pets who would have made great companions.”
The number of homeless animals varies by state – in some states as many as 300,000 cats and dogs are put down in animal shelters every year. Typically, these are not the offspring of homeless street animals (like the pups we rescued from the junk heap). More often, these are the puppies and kittens of pets who were accidentally or intentionally allowed to breed.
Sadly, the state of Georgia has one of the highest kill rates in the country.
A study conducted in 2009 estimated that 260,000 animals were euthanized in Georgia shelters in 2007 – a 62% euthanasia rate.
Together, we can solve this.

Muffin is eligible for “Paws for Consideration.” Take her home for a few days and see if she fits into your household.
Here’s what Muffin’s foster mom has to say about Muffin…
Muffin, (who we’ve been calling Pumpkin) is extremely loving, and also very vocal. She loves to sit on laps and will keep me company for hours. The adoption fee for Muffin has been reduced to $50 through the end of June. This includes spay/neuter surgery, disease testing for FeLV & FIV, age appropriate vaccinations up to the adoption date, deworming, flea/tick prevention, heartworm prevention, 24Petwatch microchip, and 30 days of 24PetWatch Pet Insurance.
… and her kittens: They are a very playful, cuddly, and well-socialized litter, comfortable with little kids, strangers, and other cats. Mango is the most snuggly – she loves being held and napping with me. Cherry has the most adventurous temperament, always curious and exploring. Apple is the most playful – she’s a big fan of the sneak attack. Kiwi is the most balanced in personality, the perfect mix of playful and affectionate. She’s also the most vocal, talking all the time.
