Gen Con 2013 pre-registration begins today, Sunday, January 27. The Best Four Days in Gaming™ is on August 15-18 this year at the Indiana Convention Center. Hotel registration starts Tuesday, January 29th.
Also in GenCon related news, the convention has another big named sponsor this. Previously, Mayfair Games was the main multi-year contracted sponsor. Now, Paizo joins Mayfair as Co-Sponsor, supporting the convention at the highest sponsorship level. Paizo and GenCon have signed a contract for 3 years at this level.
Paizo Publishing®, LLC is a publisher of RPGs, accessories, board games, and novels. Paizo’s Pathfinder® RPG , is currently the best-selling tabletop roleplaying game. The Pathfinder RPG was a result of the largest open playtest in the history of tabletop gaming. The Paizo.com retail store offers thousands of products (everything from games, both board/card and trading card, to plush toys to comics to apparel and much more) from many different publishers, including Mayfair (Settlers of Catan) and Fantasy Flight (The Game of Thrones LCG) and Hasbro (The 11th Doctor Doctor Who Monopoly). Since its founding 10 years ago, Paizo Publishing has received over 50 awards and has grown to become a major presence in the hobby game industry.
For its sponsorship, Paizo will receive a larger booth (Booth #203) by about 30%. They also will get to offer more supported events to take place in the Sagamore Ballroom.
According to Paizo publisher Erik Mona (quote from press release emailed to me),
“Paizo’s new sponsorship of the show is a reflection of Gen Con’s importance to our business, to Pathfinder RPG players, and to the greater community of gamers. I haven’t missed a Gen Con since my first, in 1995. And I never will. Gen Con is the best game convention in America, a giant gathering of fellow gamers, and the best gaming marketplace you could imagine. Year after year, I come for the great gaming and the new releases, but these days I also go because it’s a reunion of all the friends I’ve made there over the years. It’s the year’s greatest can’t-miss event.”
Gen Con’s CEO, Adrian Swartout said from (press release emailed to me),
“Gen Con is privileged to have such a strong partner. Adventure and storytelling games create lifelong memories, and those unforgettable experiences are what Gen Con and Paizo have committed to create together.”
It should be a beautiful partnership that will work out for all involved, especially the attendees. I hope to see you all there!
