My whole family can be considered to be big Vanderbilt University Athletics fans. We like the football program and follow it throughout the season. When the Commodores had a good season last year and went to the Music City Bowl game in Nashville, both of our sons (one from Lebanon and the other who now lives in Indiana) bought tickets and attended. We saved the headlines from the Tennessean newspaper about the Vanderbilt Commodores football game win and presented them to each of our sons in a poster frame for Christmas.
We also love the Vanderbilt Commodores basketball program as well and have watched each team go through their ups and downs and have been well-satisfied when they win and then we’ll be cheering them on until they win again. Several of the players have gone on to the NBA, with some being drafted prior to graduation.
With the Vanderbilt Commodores baseball team, we’ve watched as they make and break records and bring home the well-deserved titles sometimes to Music City USA.
The golfing program at Vanderbilt University has it’s own well-known athlete who is among the world’s best golfers and brings the glory home to his alma mater every time it is mentioned where he played college golf.

We see the Vandy baseball players bring home titles and accolades. One of the recent Vandy graduates who was a record-breaker at Vanderbilt was David Price, who is now in the major leagues and still setting records there. Two more Vandy baseball players, Pedro Alvarez and Jensen Lewis were both MLB players, too.

One Vanderbilt Commodore Athletics golfer was Brandt Snedeker, who is now a professional and makes his alma mater proud with the knowledge that he graduated from Vanderbilt.

We well remember some of the former Vandy Commodore basketball stars such as one of our favorite players, Will Perdue, who was drafted by the NBA in 1988 and played for the Chicago Bulls for several years.
Also there was Clyde Lee, who was born in Nashville and attended local David Lipscomb High School, then Vanderbilt, then was drafted by the NBA in 1966.
One of the more recent basketball players for the Commodores was John Jenkins, who decided to ‘go pro’. John Jenkins came to Vandy from the Station Camp High School in our area and we followed his career as he joined the Vanderbilt team and had great success there.
You can find more basketball players from Vanderbilt listed at ‘Former Vanderbilt Players in the NBA now or since 1992-1993’.

Some of the Vanderbilt Commodore football players who come immediately to mind, and who went on to play professional football include, from many years ago, Bill Wade, Watson Brown (who was a quarterback, then a coach at Vanderbilt) and two players, Jay Cutler and Earl Bennett who are both currently with the Chicago Bears NFL team.
