Emma Larsson, SWE, floor: This youngster, a big part of the Swedish team at last year’s Junior European Championships, has monstrous, Giulia Steingruber-like tumbling abilities. She cleaned up at the Junior Nordic Artistic Championships earlier this month, too, winning five gold medals.
The whole Swedish women’s team is up and coming, actually: In addition to 2012 Olympian (and now European bars silver medalist) Jonna Adlerteg, they have Kim Singmuang, a budding all-arounder with a terrific bars set including double double layout dismount that she trains, and Julia Rumbutis, a power tumbler/vaulter.
And that’s just what we’ve seen so far! Watch Emma on floor here.
Rhythmic gymnastics as a blood sport: And you thought artistic was fierce. Check out the FIG’s “expressions” cut from the 2011 World Championships in Montpellier, France. Watch here and be thrilled. If you want more rhythmic, be sure to check out the European Gymnastics Union’s livestream of finals at the European Championships in Vienna, happening all weekend.
Two time European high bar champion Emin Garabov, RUS: In an advertisement for this summer’s World University Games. Check it out here. We can only hope that there’s an Aliya Mustafina one in post-production as well.
Chinese men’s group, 2012 Acro Worlds: One of the infamous “human jumprope” routines. Watch it here.
Sophie Scheder, GER, uneven bars: Just one more proof that sometimes it’s better to be taller on bars. The quality of Scheder’s work on this event is just wonderful — look at her toepoint and her handstands, not to mention the lift she gets on her full twisting double tuck dismount. Just excellent. Watch it here.
