Kathy McCabe, one of the filmmakers for the forthcoming “Good Ol’ Freda” film about Beatles Fan Club Secretary Freda Kelly, announced Wednesday she is auctioning her “Meet the Beatles” lithograph signed by the photographer to help benefit the movie.
“I’m selling my signed/numbered Robert Freeman Beatles lithograph of the ‘Meet The Beatles’ LP on eBay through (dealer) Perry Cox,” she said. “Freeman is the chap who actually took that photo and his agent says he’s never seen this lithograph series before!!! All profits will go to the ‘Good Ol’ Freda’ film.”
McCabe described the lithograph more in the eBay listing.
“Note the lithograph was in the early days of Mr. Freeman’s opening up his work for lithography presentations and he signed his name, “Bob Freeman”. That is something he has long since abandoned opting now for his full name autograph,” she wrote.
“This example is number 231 of only 350 printed back then. It has been nicely framed and matted. Size of the frame is 15 3/4″ x 18 3/8″. The lithograph alone is 15″ x 18″. It has been framed and protected for many years. There is a small watermark on the back of the lithograph which secure’s the item as an authentic Robert Freeman lithograph. This item was originally purchased at the Fine Arts Dept. of ‘Liberty’s of London.’ It is signed and numbered appropriately in pencil.”
McCabe says she originally purchased in the early 1970s and is donating all of the proceeds from this sale to the production of the film. This item will come with a letter of authenticity signed by McCabe.
Perry Cox, who’s conducting the sale, told us he’s donating his fees. “I am also donating all my commission and I’m covering the expenses of this listing, too. So Freda gets 100% of the final value,” he said.
Beatles Examiner reported first in mid-January the huge news that the film will get its world premiere March 9 at the prestigious South By Southwest festival.
And McCabe said that Freda would be attending the event.
“Oh yes, she is coming! She is very excited about it,” McCabe said. “She just can’t hardly believe it. She’s so modest she can’t believe anybody would be interested in her story. So this to her is unbelievable.”
