The production team has established that ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ will not be choosing a cast for the highly anticipated movie any time soon, yet fans and media outlets are still obsessed over debating who should play Christian Grey. With news from The Metro on Jan 31 that Matt Bomer has recognized the casting rumors and Henry Cavill’s hot Empire Magazine cover, Christian Grey fan favorites are everywhere. There have also been a few new names added to the possible list, including the hot Jason Mamoa from “Game of Thrones.”
Casting the role of Christian Grey is going to be a daunting task, expectations are high that the perfect man will be found. E L James describes the perfection, that is also fifty shades of messed up, as tall and muscular, with dark copper hair and gray eyes. Fans have their own mental pictures of what that means and it may end up being contrary to who James eventually green lights. So it is important for ‘greysessed’ fans to have an open mind no matter who is cast. E L James, as well as producers Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti, want the film to be successful and will choose exactly the right actor for the part.

Henry Cavill, 29, will soon be seen as Superman but fans are calling for the “Man of Steel” to fill the playroom jeans of Christian Grey in the “Fifty Shades” film. The Henry Cavill Fanpage has high hopes the actor will be cast saying, “everyone here at HCF believes that Henry would nail this role hands down if he is offered the opportunity and accepts it. Our fingers are crossed!” It appears the actor himself would be up for the physically demanding and racy part with his cryptic response, “whether that happens, that decision will be made at the time it has to be made.”
Matt Bomer, 35, was one of the original fan favorites for the role of Christian Grey. His name has become synonymous with the part and the controversy surrounding it. The openly gay actor has garnered support from fans and fellow actors who believe it is ridiculous to not cast someone based on their sexual orientation. On Jan 30 Bomer finally spoke about the rumors and support from his followers stating, “no comment. That’s my line on that. But it’s very flattering I’ve got fans who would like to see me in these things.”
Ian Somerhalder, 34, steams up TV screens every week on “The Vampire Diaries” and fans are ready for him to do the same as Christian Grey. “Fifty Shades of Grey” needs an actor who can pull off sexy, confident and dark. Ian Somerhalder has all of those qualities as well as a fan in E L James, who has admitted to enjoying the show where he plays the smoldering Damon.
The youngest actor on this list, Alex Pettyfer, was already a sex symbol on screen in last year’s “Magic Mike” so Christian Grey would not be too far of a stretch for him. The 22 year old actor has recently been rumored to play Four in the upcoming “Divergent” film but one fan site believes he could be cast in both, “I heard that Divergent was supposed to be filming for 3 months starting in April and I can’t imagine that the 50 Shades movie will be anywhere close to filming at the same time with as slow as they are taking each step”
Garret Hedlund, 28,was recently seen opposite Kristen Stewart in “On the Road” and fans see his mysterious sex appeal as the reason he should be cast as Christian Grey. The actor has a long list of credits including, “Friday Night Lights” and “Troy,” the film E L James admitted to watching recently to see all the hot men in leather. Hedlund’s next film will be a “Tron” sequel.
The newest actor to be thrown into the Christian Grey mix, Jason Mamoa, made headlines when he admitted to TMZ on Jan 31 that he stays in shape by having plenty of sex. Mamoa, 33, played a very sexually dominant character on “Game of Thrones,” which would come in handy on the “Fifty Shades of Grey” set. The Stir described Mamoa as, “someone whose overwhelming sexual heat burns off the screen and turns us into a quivering, moist mess.”
