As casting for the hotly awaited “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie continues this week, readers of E.L. James bestselling erotic novel have heard a variety of actors and fan bases voice their interest in the film’s colorful roles. From the IB Times reporting this Sunday, Feb. 3, that fans have recently taken to Instagram to post photos of their favorite stars to Enstarz adding this morning that a new candidate is returning to the casting debate, the steamy adaptation’s men and women are never far from its followers’ minds. It also becomes apparent that not only are Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele key characters to be cast, but the supporting figures throughout the story are equally important to the lovers’ initial meeting.
Two of these supporting characters in the “Fifty Shades of Grey” trilogy are Kate Kavanagh and Elliot Grey. Kate Kavanagh plays an integral role in the series as an ambitious journalist as well as Anastasia Steele’s roommate and best friend. Described in the novels as a beautiful young woman with strawberry-blonde hair, she acts as the impetus through which Ana first meets Christian in an interview. Although her confident and protective ways cause mixed effects in Ana’s love life, she always has her best friend’s interests at heart.
Elliot Grey may not receive as much fanfare as his younger brother, Christian Grey, but will also make an appearance in the first “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie. Described as a very tall and broad-shouldered man in his early 30s with blue eyes and curly, blonde hair, he eventually develops a relationship with Kate Kavanagh. Elliot first meets Ana after picking her up with Christian at a night club after she’s had a bit too much to drink.
Casting of these two characters will play an important role in the film — not only for chemistry with not just one another, but the way in which they connect with Ana and Christian onscreen. Listed here are ten actors and actresses that not only fit the descriptions of Kate Kavanagh and Elliot Grey, but also seem to be popular in the “Fifty Shades of Grey” fandom with capable acting skill.
Fellow “Fifty Shades” fans, who do you see as your Kate and Elliot in the upcoming adaptation?

Blake Lively
Blake Lively stands as a very strong contender for the role of Katherine (Kate) Kavanagh. From her stunning looks to blonde hair (the actress actually had a similar strawberry-blonde look in 2012 that matched the description in “Fifty Shades of Grey”), Blake seems to have both the composure and aura for the role as the hot aspiring journalist.
Blake Lively’s on-screen roles often lend themselves well to the ambitious and (pun-intended) lively personality of Kate as well, and this “Gossip Girl” leads the pack on IB Times’ Kate Kavanagh online casting poll.
Emma Stone
From her great personality to reddish roots, Emma Stone might very well make a great Kate Kavanagh in fans’ eyes. From starring in such film roles as “The Help,” Emma has secured herself as a top-notch actress in Hollywood that could easily offer the humor and go-get-‘em nature of Anastasia Steele’s best friend.
When Kate Kavanagh eventually intercedes in Ana’s relationship with Christian to look out for her best friend, it’s not too hard to see this sassy actress knock some sense into her roommate’s dominant lover for a change.
Amber Heard
Amber Heard fits the description of Kate Kavanagh in the novels very well, with her “drop-dead gorgeous” looks and mane of blonde hair. This former model has been supported by some for the role of Ana Steele in recent weeks, but she might very well make a much more convincing Kate. With that mischievous grin and bubbly way about her, Amber might fit very well into the steamy film’s love story.
Amber Heard has also made name for herself on the “Fifty Shades of Grey” Wiki page as a potential contender for Kate, so definitely keep this leggy actress in mind.
Ashley Benson
Though perhaps not mentioned as often as such actresses as Blake Lively for the part of Kate Kavanagh, Ashley Benson might prove to be a solid starlet in the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie as well. She already has the blonde hair needed for the part, and her “Bring It On: In It to Win It” role could lend itself well to the part of Ana’s best friend.
Ashley is also known for her talent in singing. That in tandem with her sweet and outspoken personality on “Pretty Little Liars” as Hanna could make her fit Kate’s role really well.
Dianna Agron
From “Glee” girl to “Fifty Shades of Grey” starlet? It may seem unlikely, but Dianna Agron might make a great Kate Kavanagh. She certainly knows how to play the best friend with an agenda as Quinn Fabray on “Glee,” and has the delicate features and soft blonde hair needed for the role.
At 26, Dianna is relatively close to Kate’s age in the novels, and she certainly does look young for her age. She also has some solid acting experience from the set of the FOX show, and this role might be just the fit she needs to take on the blonde bombshell part on the big screen.
Alex Pettyfer
Alex Pettyfer may be often seen as Christian Grey by many fans, but that doesn’t keep him from being a popular option as a potential Elliot Grey as well. Alex fits the handsome description of Christian’s brother in the books fairly well, and remains a top casting choice according to a Latinos Post poll on top picks for Elliot Grey.
This “Magic Mike” actor might do very well at using his body and wit to make Kate Kavanagh his own Ana before long.
Kellan Lutz
Though some fans won’t want any major links between “Twilight” and “Fifty Shades of Grey,” Kellan Lutz might be a solid exception. His role as Emmett Cullen is actually not too far a throw from that of the strong Elliot Grey, and he certainly has the broad shoulders needed for the part.
One snaptwig.commenter added that “the only Elliot I could see in my mind while reading [’50 Shades’] was Kellan Lutz.”
Chris Evans
From Captain American to Elliot Grey, Chris Evans also seems a potential casting choice to the “Fifty Shades of Grey” film team. Not only does he fit the description of the handsome Elliot well, but he’d mesh well with nearly any actress he’s paired with to play Kate in their own developing relationship.
Chris Evans might also bring a fun sense of humor and that “cool” older-brother vibe needed for the part, so don’t count out this Fantastic Four member in the “Fifty Shades” movie.
Chris Pine
Another Chris makes our list as Elliot Grey, this time being actor Chris Pine. Although Pine confirmed in mid-2012 that he was not interested in the role of Christian Grey, that doesn’t mean he’s turned down the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie altogether.
His physical description is a fairly solid match to that of EL James’ novels, and he has been mentioned by fans in quite a few fan polls for the role. He also has the blue-eyed, blonde-hair look already down on the mattress.
Chris Hemsworth
In addition to making most women melt at the knees as Thor, (a third Chris!) Chris Hemsworth rounds out our list as another solid casting option as Elliot Grey. His blend of power and sex appeal onscreen would be a perfect mix for Elliot, and offer a nice sense of dynamism with Kate’s personality.
