“Fifty Shades of Grey” author E L James has spent the past week in Los Angeles and has given fans the best tease of their lives. From Slyly admitting a script was complete, to showing it’s charred remains on Feb 26 via Twitter, James is having fun with her fandom. She is also taking advantage of all LA has to offer during Oscar weekend. The Washington Post revealed on Feb 25 that James was using the Vanity Fair post-Oscar party to scout for Ana Steele casting. Here is a look at what E L James has been up to on this whirwind visit to lala land.
It all began with an early morning flight on Feb 22 from London, where she immediately was swept off to visit screenwriter Kelly Marcel. Their Twitter exchange hinted at a completed script which is now all but confirmed. By the same evening James and Marcel were enjoying an “awesome evening” with producers Dana Brunetti and Michael De Luca. February 23 was filled with more evening partying by “#TeamFifty,” according to Dana Brunetti, who tweeted a photo of the group attending the Focus Features party held at the iconic Château Marmont. Amazingly the fun does not stop there. James then spends Oscar night at the most fabulous post-Oscar party in Hollywood hosted by Vanity Fair.
This is the part of her trip that gets very interesting. James is apparently spotted at the party, “allegedly here with her agent, prowling for young bankable talent to play Ana Steele in a film adaptation of the book that ate the world,” according to the Washington Post. So who was at the Vanity Fair party that could have sparked her interest? Along with the many unknown actresses that were likely present, there were plenty of big names hobnobbing. Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens were two brunettes attending, both of which are a good age for the role of the young college graduate. Jennifer Lawrence also made an appearance with her newly acquired statue. The “Silver Linings Playbook” actress has garnered plenty of attention for the role of Ana Steele and could have caught the eye of James at the party. Popular casting favorites, Amber Heard and Lily Collins were also in attendance. As for Christian Grey casting, James told Page Six “We don’t even have a filmmaker. So we are still a long way from casting. I have some ideas, but it may not be who people expect.” This likely means that her daily tweets from Matt Bomer and Ian Somerhalder fans are for naught, as she will likely go with an actor who has received less attention for the role. This does not rule out Henry Cavill who has long been mentioned but never received the attention the other favorites have enjoyed.
The Oscar parties are over and E L James is still in town so the partying continues but don’t think she is not getting some business done as well. So what can fans make of her Feb 27 tweet, “thanks for a lovely evening.” The harmless looking message was sent to an actor of Christian Grey age and look. Erik Odom, who played Peter in “Breaking Dawn Part 2.” Stay tuned for more information on the actor and his connections to “Fifty Shades of Grey.”
