Rumors have run rampant in the “Fifty Shades of Grey” world, from who is going to play Christian Grey to when the film will be completed. The newest rumors being circulated are regarding the existence of an “official trailer” for the movie. Author E L James has remained patient with fans, even addressing rumors periodically to keep everyone informed. Yet this week James has begun showing her frustration with the incessant questions regarding the non-existent trailer. On Jan 23 James Tweeted, “For the 412th time… no,” when asked once again if a YouTube video was “official.”
The simple fact is it would be impossible to create a trailer for a film without having a director, script or even actors. Fans appear to be hoping beyond the reasonable, hoping that the movie is well underway, when in reality it is still in the toddler stage of development. But the “greysessed” community should not give up hope just yet. There are things happening behind the scenes and official announcements are going to be happening soon enough. For now everyone should enjoy the ride, participate in the wild casting debates and relish in the fantasy that Christian Grey can be whoever you imagine.
“Fifty Shades of Grey” fans can still enjoy the unofficial trailers available on YouTube, as many are well made and can give a visual idea to what the film may look like. The most popular fan made trailers feature casting favorites Henry Cavill, Ian Somerhalder and Matt Bomer. One video, posted in July, features Bomer and has received over 4 millions hits. Another, showing clips from Henry Cavill’s Dunhill Fragrance Ad, has over 80K views and promising comments from fans, including an enthusiastic response from Irida4, “I would love to see Henry Cavill as Christian!! He’s the perfect choice!! He’s not only physically the most appropriate but also the best actor from those mentioned!! Matt Bomer has a pretty face but not the perfect body and is short!! For my Henry fits perfectly to the Christian described by E.L. James!!”
E L James has made it clear that no trailer is official, casting has not been announced and the film still has a long way to go.
