Dog to be put down because he’s ‘gay’ has been rescused

A dog in Tennessee was sentenced to death because he is “gay”, but was rescued earlier today, Daniel Miller for Mail Online writes on Jan. 31.

The dog, which is a pitbull-type hound, was abandoned after his owner “noticed him ‘hunched over’ another male dog, which led him to assume he was gay.” That dog was “languishing in an overcrowded animal shelter in Jackson.”

The dog was going to be put down this afternoon, on Jan. 31st, but a kind person came forward and adopted the dog, according to Pink News writer Joseph Patrick McCormick.

The Tennessee dog’s fate sparked an outcry and appeal among animal lovers, with a Facebook page set up that reads: “Don’t let this gorgeous dog die bc his owner is ignorant of normal dog behavior! He’s in kennel 10L and he WILL be put down tomorrow bc there is no room at the inn! they (shelter) open at 9 a.m. and he will die by 1 p.m. if not adopted as he was an owner surrender. Adoption fee is 38.00 and that only includes a voucher for a rabies shot. He looks to be a pit/american bulldog mix.”

It can be noted that animals of all breeds—including dogs—display homosexual behavior, even if they have had heterosexual relations to breed. But with dogs, not only is homosexual behavior common, but a male dog mounting another male can be considered a show of dominance, with one male asserting his power over the other (a “master of the house” display).

And just as a male dog mounting another male is not conducive to homosexuality, “biologists have recorded same-sex sexual activity in more than 450 species including flamingos, bison, beetles and warthogs,” writes Miller.

“A 2010 study of Alaskan Albatrosses found that a third of the pairs actually consisted of two females. Research also shows around a fifth of all king penguin couples kept in captivity are gay.”

In a book titled “Biological Exuberance: Animal Homosexuality and Natural Diversity,” its author Bruce Bageihi says that there is a “heterosexual bias,” in that people assume it is natural to be heterosexual—and this goes for researchers observing animals, as well. He goes on to say that homosexual behavior has been observed in 1,500 animals species, and is “well-documented in 500 of these.”

Zoologist Petter Bockman is an expert on the subject at the University of Oslo, and he says that homosexuality sometimes takes on a social role: for example, two male black swans may raise the young ones, and only involve the female during the breeding process, and this could be because males are more able to protect the young.

All of this behavior observed in animals has led gay rights supporters to seize it, saying that homosexual behavior is natural. But of course, there is only one fully judgmental creature in the world that criticizes and prejudices against behavior that is seen as “left of center.”

And one of them abandoned a dog at an animal shelter and left him for dead for such behavior.
