On January 11, 2013, “The X Factor” U.S. judge Demi Lovato ended her “break from Twitter” by tweeting a thank you to her fans for winning the 2013 People’s Choice Award for Favorite Celebrity Judge.
She was a no-show at the 2013 People’s Choice Awards on January 9. Lovato was nominated for three awards at the show, and she won the prize for Favorite Celebrity Judge. (That category was not shown on TV.)
Lovato tweeted: “AHHH! I’ve been so busy in the studio that I just found out I won the @peopleschoice award for Favorite Celebrity Judge! Thank you so much!!”
“The X Factor” executive producer Simon Cowell has been on vacation in the Caribbean. No explanation was given for Lovato’s absence from the awards show but there was speculation that she was busy working on her next album. As previously reported, there were paparazzi photos of Lovato going into a Los Angeles recording studio. British girl group The Saturdays were recording at the same studio, which led to reports that Lovato is collaborating with The Saturdays on a song.
On January 3, 2013, Lovato announced that she was taking a break from Twitter because “I hate gossip sites.”
There have been rumors that recovering addict Lovato has relapsed and is secretly in rehab. According to TMZ, Lovato has been residing in a sober living facility with other recovering addicts for “more than a year.”
Lovato famously checked into rehab in late 2010. She has gone public with her recovery from substance abuse, eating disorders and self-harming. Lovato has also said in many interviews that she is bipolar. She has hinted in interviews that she has relapsed after she got out of rehab, but she has been vague about when those relapse(s) happened.
Of course, skeptics can always say that if Lovato is really in rehab and doesn’t have access to the Internet, she could have had one of her employees or friends tweet the message about her being in the studio. The people who think she’s in rehab say that she is in a program that allows her to go outside the facility and her handlers arrange for her to have photo ops for paparazzi to make it look like she is going about her business normally.
In May 2012, Lovato and Britney Spears joined “The X Factor” U.S. as replacements for fired judges Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul. There are ongoing rumors that Lovato is going to be fired, but representatives for “The X Factor” U.S. are currently refusing to comment on any changes that the show is making in 2013. Lovato and her representatives are also not commenting on whether or not she’s going to remain an “X Factor” judge.
Insiders say that Khloe Kardashian (co-host) will definitely not be asked back on the show in 2013. Antonio “L.A.” Reid (judge) quit “The X Factor” U.S. in December 2012 because he said he wanted to spend more time on his main job as chairman/CEO of Epic Records. On January 11, 2013, Spears confirmed reports that she will no longer be a judge on “The X Factor” U.S.
As of now, Cowell is the only judge who is confirmed to be on the show in 2013.
