Decorate Your Super Bowl Party with DIY Crafts

by snap twig

The Super Bowl is the biggest sporting event of the year, and lots of people celebrate it by hosting big parties. How are you going to set your Super Bowl party apart from all the others? Save money by decorating with DIY crafts, and you’ll have more to spend on the rest of the party supplies.

Team Pennants

Show support for your favorite team, or both teams, by making your own pennants. Purchasing pennants and decorations with team logos can get pretty expensive, especially when the same teams don’t compete every year. It’s very easy to DIY your own decorative pennants to hang from the ceiling, place on the wall or put anywhere else you like.

Cut out a triangle of felt, measuring around 9 inches across and 22 inches in length. Choose felt in one of the team colors. Go online to get precise lettering for the team, and print it out. Glue the printout onto your second piece of felt (this should be the team’s secondary color) and cut out the letters. Peel away the paper, then place this side down against the felt triangle. Glue or sew the letters in place to make your own affordable team pennant.

Cheer on the Team

The Super Bowl is an exciting event, and fans want to enjoy it by cheering on their team of choice. Make it easy for your guests to do so by making DIY pom poms using ordinary trash bags. You’ll need 10 black bags and 10 white bags. Flatten them out in stacks of 10, then create a new stack of 20 by alternating the two colors.

Align the alternating stack, and place a row of staples along one edge to hold them together. Place a staple in both of the opposite corners, then fold the stack in half longways. Add more staples across the top and trim up the edge to even it. Next, cut 1-inch strips into the stack from the raw edge at the bottom up to within 1 ½ inch of the stapled and folded top edge. Roll the bags along the top edge to make a handle, and wrap this in electrical tape. Spread the strips, and you’ve got a pom pom.

Table Decoration

Use your DIY skills to turn your buffet table into a football field. Get a green tablecloth and white tape to make an affordable, simple DIY decoration that will really put your event over the top. Use a pencil and straight edge to make off yard lines across the tablecloth. Start at the exact center of the cloth to create the 50 yard line, then divide each half by 5. That’s the measurement you’ll need between each line. Create the lines with white tape, and use stickers or a white marker to add the numbers.

Cup Name Tags

Plastic party cups are a great way to avoid massive cleanup at the end of your Super Bowl party, but they’re easily confused. You don’t want guests walking around saying “whose cup is this?” so put your DIY skills to good use. Trace a football shape on a piece of cardboard, and cut it out carefully. Use this as a template, and spray-paint chalkboard paint on your cups. Now, guests can use chalk to write their names on their football cups.

Decorate your Super Bowl party with DIY crafts, and put a personalized touch on your event. Your guests will appreciate the extra effort, and you’ll appreciate the money you end up saving.
