D.R.I. (Dirty Rotten Imbeciles) performed at the legendary concert club Peabody’s in downtown Cleveland, OH to an almost sold out show on Febr 23rd. There was wall-to-wall long-time D.R.I. fans that waited in the cold for hours to see a band that catapulted the genre mix of punk and metal from the 80’s.
It was really nice to see that the fans came in their D.R.I. patched clothing. There were 3 stages throughout Peabody’s that had bands playing. In the Pirates Cove there were some extreme metal bands who were delivering powerful knockout punches. Upstairs in the Rockstar room were a hip-hop band that seemed to be really owning the room and had a nice mix of people in front of the stage. On the main stage I witnessed an onslaught of fire, fury and fun. The local long-time favorite band Hostile Omish had an great set, performing many of their cult following favorites. Including the two butter churning devices on stage in which they had fans on stage churning as the band powered on. After Hostile Omish was the metal band Law of Destruction which is a Death/Thrash Metal band from Cleveland, OH. LOD consists of members of Beyond Fear, Ringworm, Odious Sanction, and Pale Creation : Scott Bryant, John Comprix, Kyle Kniceley, Justin Endres, David Trusnik. Being a fan of a few of the members of the band I found myself in the front of the stage enjoying the torment that this band unleashed to the packed house. It has been evident that this super group has everything tightened up from every note to every movement on stage. A great tandem of musical excellence was given. The vocals really shined in this one as well as the hard thrashing solos of John Comprix. Really need to check this band out on a headlining show.
D.R.I. performed close to 40 songs from their catalog which was a special treat for any fan of theirs. From the beginning of their set to the last note the audience were in constant connection with them. Bodies flying from the stage back into the audience for the enjoyable stage diving. Security wasn’t needed as the fans really were there for the band and the band fed off their fury. A great show. Some of the songs that they covered were: Thrashard, Who Am I, Slumlord, Commuter Man, Violent Pacification (which original drummer Eric Brecht performed), Probation, I’d Rather Be Sleeping, Manifest Destiny, Beneath the Wheel and Five Year Plan, just to name a few.
Overall: Wow, must rate this the absolute best concert so far this year. D.R.I. is one of those bands that if you had a connection with them as a kid you would enjoy their show. It was really hard to pull my hands off the stage when they were done. Yes, I was in disbelief that the show was over and that they played what seemed like hours and all the songs I have grown up with that had a place in my heart. So if you every have a chance to check out Dirty Rotten Imbeciles when they come to your city you need to! If you are week stay in the back there will be bodies in the air!
