Texas has some unusual laws on the books. The Lone Star State is normally associated with a business- friendly climate, but there are still many laws that infringe on the rights of ordinary citizens to conduct business in a fair and rational manner. The craft beer industry knows this all too well, but there is one important grassroots organization working to overturn these archaic laws and move the state of Texas closer to the free- market utopia it purports to be. The organization is Open the Taps and it has an event scheduled for this weekend at a local brewery. Here are the facts:
Who: Open the Taps
What: Cornerstone Meet and Greet
Where: No Label Brewing, 5351-A 1st Street Katy, TX
When: Saturday, January 26, 2013, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Why: To learn more about the lobbying effort and drink some local brew
Open the Taps announced a partnership with Cornerstone Government Affairs in December, 2012 and it plans to work with this well- known lobbying firm during the current legislative session. Two Cornerstone reps, Tony and Tim, will be present at his Meet and Greet event, ready to answer pressing questions and otherwise mingle and socialize with the crowd.
Saturday between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. is also the normal time for No Label Brewing’s weekly tour/tasting, so guests can expect the usual hospitality, great beer, and good times associated with this weekly event. The cost for entry is the same as always: $5 per adult- a price that includes tokens for four pints of your favorite No Label Brew. Taste of New Orleans and the Mitch M. Band will provide food and entertainment to round out the afternoon.
Texas likes to brag about its pro- business climate and its healthier than average state economy, but there are still plenty of anti- beer industry laws on the books in need of reform or repeal. Open the Taps is leading this change and while much has been accomplished, there is still work to be done. Join Open the Taps and Cornerstone Government Affairs this Saturday at No Label brewing and learn more about these organizations and what you can do to transform Texas into the most craft beer industry- friendly state in the nation.
