Alec: “You are not from 2077.”
Kiera: “Why would I lie about that?”
Alec: “Well if that’s true, you are screwed.”
“A Stitch in Time” is the series premiere of Continuum. Warning this article does contain spoilers. If you are unsure about whether this is the show for you, check out the following paragraph for a quick rundown on the show. Be sure to check out the slideshow for more quotes from the episode. Continuum airs Monday nights at 7 on Syfy, channel 60 for Houstonians.
Continuum is about Kiera, a cop from 2077 that finds herself being transported back to 2012 with a group of dangerous terrorists. The premise of the show seems to be her trying to stop these terrorists from waging war against the future, and of course, her attempt to get back home. There are great things going for this show: Kiera’s relationship with two people she meets in 2012, the conspiracy is interesting, and watching Kiera use some insanely cool technology that she is equipped with is awesome. While there are some confusing moments and issues with the pilot, Continuum has great potential.
A lot happens in this episode, almost too much for just an hour long pilot. Most pilots already have a handful of things to introduce to viewers, but Continuum has so much more. The beginning in 2076 is mostly just confusing. It is hard to figure out what exactly is going on. A lot is different in the future, and the writers try to set up a lot in terms of conspiracies and political struggles. Hopefully Kiera can shed some light on all the issues plaguing her world. Towards the end of the episode, she does help explain some of the confusion that arises in the beginning. A lot of work is still needed, but the writers have not dug themselves into too deep of a hole. Did you follow everything okay or were you a little confused like me?
Kiera does manage to make some friends when she lands in 2012. Okay, maybe ‘friends’ is too strong of a word. She first runs into Alec Sadler when she tries to call in for back up. Alec is not only funny and entertaining, but he also plays some part in Kiera’s future. It’s great that the writers gave Kiera a helpful ally. Alec knows about her situation, unlike Detective Carlos Fonnegra. His relationship with Kiera is professional, considering he thinks she is a cop from Portland. It will be interesting to see how long Carlos remains in the dark about who Kiera really is. Who do you like better so far: Alec or Carlos?
