This chocolate cupcake recipe will surprise you! It’s a moist chocolate cake topped with amazing peanut butter frosting and has a surprise inside. These little handheld cakes are easy to make and oh-my-goodness-wonderful to eat. Here is a cupcake that kids of all ages will want to have – you don’t have to wait for a special occasion.

Chocolate Cupcake Recipe
Ingredients for Chocolate Cupcakes:
- ¾ cup butter, softened
- 1 ¾ cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 cups flour
- ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa
- 1 ¼ tsp. baking soda
- ½ tsp. salt
- 1 1/3 cup water
- Bag of Reese’s peanut butter cups
- Peanut butter frosting (recipe below)
Directions for making Chocolate Cupcakes:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line cupcake pans with paper liners (makes around 18 – 22).
Cream the butter and sugar together. Add the eggs and vanilla and whip together well.
Add the dry ingredients and the water – beat together until well-incorporated.
Fill each paper liner with cake batter until it is ½ full. Put an unwrapped Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup in the middle of each, gently pushing it into the cake batter. Add a little more batter so that each liner is about ¾ full.
Bake at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes. Cool completely, then frost with Easy Peanut Butter Frosting (recipe below). Chop extra peanut butter cups and sprinkle on the top of each frosted cupcake. Enjoy!!
Easy Peanut Butter Frosting Recipe
Ingredients for Easy Peanut Butter Frosting:
- ½ cup butter, softened
- 1 cup smooth peanut butter
- 5 cups powdered sugar
- Enough milk to make it spreadable (4 – 6 tablespoons)
Directions for making Easy Peanut Butter Frosting:
Put the butter and peanut butter in a bowl and let it sit while you are making the cake – this will soften the butter. When you are ready to make the frosting, add the powdered sugar and enough milk to make it spreading consistency. Whip together well. (Add a little more powdered sugar or a little more milk if necessary.)
