Local Option’s “A Tribute To Scarface” has two objectives: first to give thanks to Al Capone for making his adopted city Chicago known around the world for bootlegging liquor and prostitution. If not for Snorky, people of Sweden would not know of Chicago. The second is to enhance Crook County’s existing reputation by assembling a draft list that will render the most well traveled beer enthusiast dumbfounded. The draft list for “A Tribute To Scarface” includes highly regarded and sought after releases. Four offerings from Local Option Bierwerker (Crook County) will also be available, including Kentucky Common that was aged on Templeton Rye Bourbon barrels, the preferred liquor of Al Capone. Attendees who enter Capone’s Castle dressed as flappers will receive a complementary ass tapping, just like the old days.

We are hosting a special night to help raise funds for the newest beer project on the block: 18th Street Brewery. 18th Street is trying to open a brewery in Gary, Indiana and with the help from friends at Pipeworks Brewery who are teaching them how to brew and from beer enthusiasts from all over, they are raising funds via Kickstarter. Maria’s got a 1/2 barrel of the 18th St./Pipeworks collaborative beer called Brotherhood. From 6-9pm we will be sampling out the brew and asking you to purchase a few. With each glass sold, Maria’s will donate the proceeds to the 18th Street Brewery’s fund. The Brotherhood is a Belgian Abbey Single, or more specifically, a Patersbier. Four kinds of citrus zest were used in its brewing: lemon, lime, grapefruit, and orange. Very clean, easy drinking. Light, citrusy tartness. Subtle breadiness from Belgian yeast. We think it will be a hit at Maria’s, offering a nice contrast to the heavy beers that us Chicagoans are wont to drink in the winter.

1st Course: Sunchoke soup with pumpkin seed cracker; Double Fist-Double India Pale Ale.
2nd Course: Bay scallops, pickled blueberries, kale salad; Bottom Up Wit- Belgium-Style White Ale.
3rd Course: Braised goat, sweet potato and scallion latke, espresso crème fraiche; Eugene Porter- Robust Porter.
4th Course: Selection of artisanal cheese and accouterment; Coup D’Etat- French Style Saison.
5th Course: Caramel-apple upside-down cake; Straight Jacket- Barrel Aged Barley Wine.

In the darkest depths of winter CHAOS Brew Club members come together to warm our souls with home brewed stouts and porters paired with gourmet chilis. This year we get to drink the stout we brewed and barreled last year, along with 25 other shades of black on tap. Members only, but it’s cheap and easy to sign up for a month-long trial membership ($25), which also gets you access to club events throughout January. As an alternative you can also sign up as a Friend of CHAOS which gives you a full one-year access to our events, as well as a discount at our partner shops, pubs and merchants.
