If you’re looking for something fun and unique to take to a Halloween party, try these caramel apple jello shots as featured on That’s So Michelle. She appears to be a serious jello shot aficionado because she actually has an entire section of her blog dedicated to just jello shots. She features pumpkin pie shots and most recently candy corn shots, both of which would be perfect for celebrating this spooky time of year.
Michelle used a melon baller to hollow out her apples and as you can see from her photo (go ahead and pop on over and take a look. I’ll wait right here…) it does make a more neat and uniform looking apple. I made these for Boy Toy’s Halloween party and while his kitchen is pretty well equipped, I couldn’t seem to find a melon baller in his inventory. And I probably shouldn’t mention the fact that his 10-year-old was helping to make these, so my apples went through a bit of hacking to become a jello vessel (hey, don’t judge! I viewed the situation as me teaching a necessary life skill and how do you tell a kid that she can’t help make jello?!)
I had to trim my apples up just a bit to make them presentable, but despite their awkwardness, everyone at the party was impressed. The jello was more like a pudding texture and they were more like a finger food instead of a shot as the alcohol content isn’t enough to create any kind of drunken stupor among the party guests. And as a side note, coconut milk can be found in the grocery aisle where you find the Asian products. Michelle says you can also use sweetened condensed milk, but I’m thinking that would possibly mask the caramel taste.
