It’s becoming more and more common for outdoor enthusiasts to travel with their pets. I take my three pooches on several RV camping trips every year, so I was really excited when the folks from Kyjen asked me to take a look at a few of the items in their Outward Hound collection.
Kyjen Outdoor Gear for Dogs
Kyjen carries a wide line of travel-related products for dogs. Some items in the line are geared toward camping, while others are suited for any kind of road trip or other outdoor activities like swimming or boating.
Available products include car seats, pet carriers, life jackets, easily portable food and water containers, back packs and many other options. Each item is designed with canine comfort and safety in mind, as well as for the unique challenges posed to dog owners who enjoy traveling with their pets.
For example, Outward Hound life vests are designed with an extra flap added specifically to help keep your dog’s head afloat when in the water. Additionally, for items where proper fit is important, numerous sizes are available. The colors are bright, providing for maximum visibility.
Outward Hound Review
The folks at Kyjen knew that I was about to set out on a lengthy winter RV trip, so they sent me a large backpack for my black lab to try, as well as a portable bowl that she and my other two pooches could use. I found both products to be quite handy to have along on the trip.
I don’t think I’ll take another camping trip without this bowl if my dogs are going along. Made of nylon, it collapses for easy carrying. I was able to keep it in my purse while we were on the road and carry it in my pocket (or the Outward Hound backpack) while we were hiking and enjoying other outdoor activities. It was easy to pull out and fill with water for a quick break, then collapse for easy storage.
I wasn’t really sure how my very large, very playful lab was going to take to the backpack. I’ll admit that getting her to wear it the first time was a little challenging – but no more so than getting her into a harness. Once she had it on, she seemed to forget it was there and she doesn’t mind putting it on now.
She carried the Port-A-Bowl and a few other supplies on several hiking outings without being bothered at all. It was nice for me, because it kept me from having to carry everything. The backpack doesn’t have an enormous amount of storage, but it is certainly sufficient. If it was larger, the load could easily get too heavy for your dog, so it seems “right-sized” to me.
